You can also use the TI-84 Plus's mode settings to determine how your answers are shown. The default settings are that if you use fractions in an operation, the result will be shown in fractions; and that mixed numbers will be displayed as an improper fraction. To change these settings, press the MODE button. Your current settings will be highlighted on the screen. Use the arrow keys to navigate and Enter to select new settin0.Fractions are shown as decimals by design on scales and rubrics, just as on ordinary computers. In this case, 1/2 is displayed on the monitor. It’s possible to display decimals directly on a few mathematical instruments, although not always the case. It allows you to input a complicated fraction and simplify it directly on your calculators by entering it in. You may also input a number comprised of an equal and a percentage, including 1 1/4, in these computers. If your computer doesn’t really have that functionality, you may still handle decimals using a workarounds method.

Calculators which show decimals may have a Mathematical setting that should be selected before numbers may be entered. The phrase “math” displays at the top right of the window while the computer is in Math modes. This setting (if needed) can be enabled by selecting the buttons with 2 square blocks placed on top of one another and a straight axis connecting them. The percentage key is located here. On some versions, the pushbutton may display x/y or b/c, depending on the manufacturer. The fraction function is enabled by pushing this icon. Enter your numbers. If you are using the basic fractions calculator at the top, enter the numerators (top numbers) for your fractions in the top boxes. Then enter the denominators {bottom numbers) in the boxes on the bottom. If you are using the Mixed Numbers calculator, write your numbers in each box with the whole number in front followed by a space at the beginning. Then enter the numerator followed by a slash and then enter the denominator (i.g. "1 3/4"). (Source: www.wikihow.com)
