Before you use your Casio fx-82MS, select the correct mode. To perform basic arithmetic calculations, press “Mode” and 1 to select COMP. When describing how to use various calculator functions, this guide gives the exact keys that you need to press using the symbols shown on the keys. This is known as a ‘key sequence’. If the key sequence accesses the second function of a key, or a function from a menu, the name of this function will be given in brackets at the appropriate point in the key sequence. Names in brackets are thus not keys that you press but simply describe the function that is accessed using the previous key sequence. For example, to turn off the calculator, pressbutton in the left-hand column of the function key area of the calculator keypad. This displays a fraction ‘template’ on the display – as shown in Figure 8 below – that contains boxes that need to be ‘filled in’. When the button is first pressed, the cursor is located in the top box ready for you to enter the numerator. To perform a fraction calculation, use the “a b/c” button. For example, to work out (3/4) + (1/6) input 3, press “a b/c”, input 4, press +, input 1, press “a b/c”, input 6 and press the equals button. The answer (11/12) appears on the display. You can convert calculation results between fraction values and decimal values. For example, to convert 1/4 on the display to a decimal, press the “a b/c” button to see 0.25.The calculator spits out something that looks like this: 6E24. What in the world is that? Basically, when a scientific calculator has to deal with very large or very small numbers that it doesn't have enough room to display on its screen, it will use it's own form of scientific notation. In this example, 6E24 tells us that the answer is 6 followed by 24 zeros. In other words, the E24 in 6E24 tells us to move the decimal point in 6 twenty-four units to the right. (Source: study.com)
