Calculating feet and inches might seem complicated, but adding and subtracting measurements is actually really easy if you follow a few simple steps. While it’s easy to add or subtract feet and inches using a measurement calculator like the one above, if you follow a few basic steps, you can do it yourself! With your feet and inch measurements in an inch decimal form, add or subtract them as you normally would, using a calculator as needed. The final result will be the length in inches; you can convert the result to any other unit at this point. (Source: www.inchcalculator.com)

Let's say you have a rectangular-shaped room and you want to calculate the square footage area for flooring or carpet. The easiest method for calculating the square footage is to measure the length and width in feet and then multiply the two figures together to give you a result in ft Disclaimer: Whilst every effort has been made in building this calculator, we are not to be held liable for any damages or monetary losses arising out of or in connection with the use of it. You can have it get very precise or say have it round to the nearest 1/32nd or 1/16th. At the same time it shows you the decimal equivalent and you can cycle the result to centimeters, millimeters and more, then back, or not go to metric at all. (Source: apps.apple.com)

Divide

To calculate an area in square feet, you will need measurements for the width and length (for a square shape) or the diameter (for a circular area). It may be that the area you're looking to measure is a strange shape (such as a room or garden). In this case, dividing it up into smaller parts and doing individual calculations is a good way to calculate the overall square footage. Should you find yourself needing to calculate an area of square feet in an 'L' shape, consider dividing the shape up into rectangular sections and treating them as separate areas for calculation (adding them together at the end). For more instructions, see our full article: how to calculate square footage.
