2 in Percentage

# 2 in Percentage

According to the simplest of math, the word “in” means multiplied. 2% can't be correct, which makes me wonder if this is a typo.

### Percentage

The percentage increase calculator above computes an increase or decrease of a specific percentage of the input number. It basically involves converting a percent into its decimal equivalent, and either subtracting (decrease) or adding (increase) the decimal equivalent from and to 1, respectively. Multiplying the original number by this value will result in either an increase or decrease of the number by the given percent. Refer to the example below for clarification.

### Convert

I've seen a lot of students get confused whenever a question comes up about converting a fraction to a percentage, but if you follow the steps laid out here it should be simple. That said, you may still need a calculator for more complicated fractions (and you can always use our calculator in the form below).

The first method we have is to convert the fraction so that the denominator is 100. Since "per cent" means parts per hundred, if we can convert the fraction to have 100 as the denominator, we then know that the top number, the numerator, is the percentage. (Source: worksheetgenius.com)
