## 10 Out of 14 Is What Percent ## 10 Out of 14 Is What Percent

No, not the math percentage. A percentage of what? The order of a meal? The alphabet? Even in English class, we all knew that anything greater than 10 percent was simply not possible. But what if you're in charge of writing marketing copy? What if you could just toss a number at a sentence, feel proud, and move on to the next idea? Maybe you wouldn't like the next idea, but at least you'd have tried.

The concept of percent increase is basically the amount of increase from the original number to the final number in terms of 100 parts of the original. An increase of 5 percent would indicate that, if you split the original value into 100 parts, that value has increased by an additional 5 parts. So if the original value increased by 14 percent, the value would increase by 14 for every 100 units, 28 by every 200 units and so on. To make this even more clear, we will get into an example using the percent increase formula in the next section. (Source: www.omnicalculator.com)

It is not obvious how to make 28 into 100. But 7 is the fourth part, or a quarter, of 28. And as a percent, a quarter of a number is 25%. (Source: themathpage.com)
