The classic restaurant in Thorton, Colorado, is a landmark for travelers. It is one of the great state’s most visited attractions, attracting millions of visitors each year.


A former employee of another chicken franchise believed there had to be a better way to cook chicken and run a franchise system. Our founder saw an opportunity in a growing industry and Golden Fried Chicken was born of the desire to create delicious family-friendly meals that featured golden fried chicken and a franchise experience like no other. What started as one restaurant in central Texas in the late 60’s, grew to 39 franchise locations by 1982, and in 1992 Golden Fried Chicken changed its name to Golden Chick. Our belief in the brand has allowed us to experience steady growth, with new restaurants opening throughout the region, bringing the chain-wide total today to nearly 200 stores, with over 20 new locations planned to open this year.

While it’s true that we have decades of time and experience under our belt, when it comes to our wholesome and satisfying menu items, not much has changed. Our focus has always been on providing the very best-tasting food in our category, and generations of diners have come to love and respect the Golden Chick name for just that. In 2020, and in the midst of the pandemic, Golden Chick launched its new Big & Golden Chicken Sandwich. What sets it apart from all the other chicken sandwiches? Extra large fresh baked yeast roll bun cooked throughout the day at each restaurant, with a plump chicken breast (0.5 ounces larger than direct competitors), plus five pickles and a proprietary Lotta Zing Sauce gives it a spicy finish.

The roll out of the Big & Golden Chicken Sandwich followed the release of Golden Chick’s butterfly shrimp product during Lent in March. And Stevens says the restaurant has a couple more significant products it will move to market in the next few months. Although it’s tricky to balance fluctuations in business, the marketing calendar, and innovation, the president says there’s still room for new product news if it’s a quality item and reasonable for drive-thru.
