Immerse yourself in the world of The Simpsons as Vans pays tribute to America’s favorite family. Part of a radical collection of footwear, apparel, and accessories, The Simpsons x Vans Sk8-Hi combines the legendary Vans lace-up high top with two Simpson family portraits: one representing the characters’ first appearance in 1987, and one depicting them today. The Simpsons x Vans Sk8-Hi also includes multi-colored checkerboard panels, re-enforced toe caps to withstand repeated wear, padded collars for support and flexibility, and signature rubber waffle outsoles.
Like Bart Simpson, skateboarding is a deep-rooted part of Van’s identity. Since its opening in 1966, Vans has become a staple in the uniform of skaters. Skaters found that dragging their back foot on the pavement kept wearing their shoes out. They liked the Vans’ rugged makeup and sticky sole. In 1976, Vans broke out the Era shoe designed by Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta with a padded collar and different colour combinations. In 1977, Vans created the Old Skool shoe – the first skate shoe with leather panels for durability and a ‘jazz stripe’ along the side. One year later, the Sk8-Hi debuted to protect skaters’ ankles. It seems like a natural progression that two skateboarding icons unite.
The brand revealed the first look at its upcoming collection inspired by the series on its Instagram today, debuting a mix of five different footwear silhouettes. The range included takes on its classic Sk8-Hi silhouette as well as its Slide-On sandals, its Chukka Pro, a Slip-On Pro and its low-top Era sneakers. The accents for the designs highlight the series’ main characters like Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie in addition to well-known motifs from its 31 seasons like the signature donuts. The brands first worked together on a collection that released in July 2007 in honor of the premiere of “The Simpsons Movie” later that month. The capsule featured 14 different sneaker iterations designed by 12 different well-known artists including KAWS, Taka Hayashi, Neckface, Mr. Cartoon, Stash, Sam Messer, Todd James, Tony Munoz and more. The pairs dropped exclusively at footwear and apparel retailer Bodega in Los Angeles. (Source: footwearnews.com)
