ATLANTA — Celtics guard Payton Pritchard said that when he wore a mask during games to protect the nose that he broke last month, he might as well have been donning a football helmet. Sometimes the mask would be knocked off-center in the middle of a play, and even though the clear plastic protector did not cover Pritchard’s eyes, it still affected his vision, especially peripherally. BOSTON

Halfway through the Celtics’ preseason schedule, Brown and Tatum have averaged 12 and seven 3-point attempts per game, respectively. The only other player to average over five is Payton Pritchard. These numbers should be taken with a grain of salt considering it is the preseason, however, they likely are indicative of where Pritchard stands as far as Boston’s best shooters. There is no doubt that Al Horford is a quality shooter, but not to the degree of volume that Pritchard is if called upon, which is why the second-year guard will be important off the bench. After getting off to a hot start to his NBA career last season, Pritchard's productivity took a hit over the final few months of the campaign, but his stellar 58.2 true-shooting percentage made it an easy decision for the Celtics to keep him on board through 2022-23. Though Boston has lost Kemba Walker from last season's roster, the additions of Dennis Schroder and Josh Richardson have resulted in Pritchard losing out on some playing time in the early stages of 2021-22. He's averaging 15.0 minutes per game through five appearances, down from 19.2 as a rookie. (Source: www.cbssports.com)

Celtics point guard Payton Pritchard broke his nose in last Wednesday's preseason matchup with the Orlando Magic when he took a stray hand to the face late in the first half. Pritchard immediately flew home to Boston for treatment and missed the Celtics' preseason finale Friday against the Miami Heat. (Source: www.nbcsports.com)

Grant Williams has become a polarizing figure among Boston Celtics fans - they either love him or hate him. Despite this, he has been the most consistent offensive player on the team this season. Outside of the injured Jaylen Brown and the uber-efficient Robert Williams, he is the gold standard when it comes to efficiency. As of now, Williams is shooting 50.7 percent from the field, 40.8 percent from deep, and 88.2 percent from the free throw line. He’s literally one free throw make from the elusive 50-40-90 club. This offensive success is the main reason he has earned so much playing time this season. (Source: www.celticsblog.com)
