Georgia Football Offers 4 Star Washington D.C. Defensive Linemen

The Bulldogs boast three highly-touted defensive linemen who could be first-round picks: Jordan Davis, Travon Walker and Devonte Wyatt.

They're part of an impressive front that helped Georgia win a national championship, making them intriguing candidates in the 2022 NFL draft.

Jordan Davis

Davis is one of Georgia's premier defensive linemen. He boasts the size, athleticism and versatility to be a starter at the next level; as a first-team All-SEC performer last season, Davis also possess speed, agility and explosiveness that will allow him to excel at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Davis, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 340 pounds, offers great versatility as a defensive lineman. He can play on the outside or along different spots in the middle, plus he's capable of being an effective pass rusher when needed.

He's a tall and athletic athlete with great agility who can make plays on the ground, in space or in the air. His agility makes him an intimidating opponent for quarterbacks and wide receivers alike. Furthermore, his great motor will continue to help him succeed in college.

His physicality has enabled him to get to the line quickly, but he needs to improve upon his technique and utilize his speed and agility when there. While not perfect yet, he possesses all of the tools needed to be an NFL starter.

At his most productive, Jordan is capable of making big plays on the defensive end. His strong arm and excellent pad level give him leverage against opposing linemen while being quick enough to catch the ball if necessary.

Davis has shown his skills on several occasions this season, although he may not always be the most polished player. Since returning from injury, he has three sacks in six games; however, he still needs to improve at playing in space and using his speed to get to the quarterback more effectively.

Davis is also busy writing music and working with Paul DiGiovanni, a guitarist renowned for his work with country stars like Dan + Shay and Hunter Hayes. He currently has several songs finished and ready for release.

If his songwriting and musical abilities were a storyline, it would be the epic journey of someone who never expected to become a hero. Yet he did, becoming an increasingly prominent star in country music.

Travon Walker

Georgia Football boasts an abundance of talent on the defensive line. Walker stands as one of the best, boasting impressive size, strength, explosiveness and athleticism. He lined up as an edge defender but also took snaps across all fronts - playing 1-technique, 3-technique and even rushing the passer at times last year.

Walker boasts remarkable lateral agility, enabling him to easily cross the lineman's face while jumping gaps. This rare athleticism, coupled with his impressive 6-5 height and frame at 272-pounds, have made him an intimidating force on Georgia's defensive front.

Walker is an impressive pass rusher, boasting rare get-offs and explosive power off the snap. He's capable of winning edges and shooting through gaps, but his primary strength comes from speed-to-power as a pass rusher.

However, his hand usage is inconsistent and he could potentially lose inside leverage if not careful. Furthermore, his inability to disengage from offensive linemen makes it difficult for him to shed blockers and exit games prematurely.

Walker boasts an impressive football IQ, but needs to refine his reading blocking schemes. Additionally, Walker struggles with inconsistent snap recognition which could cause him to be one of the last players moving after snaps.

Walker is an intriguing NFL starter with the potential to be a dominant force on defense. His athleticism and versatility make him an appealing pick at the top of the draft.

He displays an intense work ethic and the drive to succeed. Additionally, his discipline and positive outlook could potentially translate into long-term success in the NFL.

Walker may not have the same production as some of his more gifted peers, but he has been an integral part of Georgia's defensive success. Last season he helped them earn a national championship and has already recorded 2.5 sacks and two pass breakups this season as a junior.

Walker may still be too early in his development to fully realize his full potential, but his explosive first step and rare athleticism give him plenty of upside. Now it's up to teams to figure out how best to utilize Walker's strengths so they can maximize his abilities and maximize his value.

Devonte Wyatt

The Green Bay Packers have high hopes for Devonte Wyatt. He can be an invaluable player for their franchise and is expected to be one of their top interior defensive linemen during his first season.

Wyatt was a part of Georgia's deep interior defensive line that helped them win the national championship in 2021. He started on this unit alongside fellow future first-round pick Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, who is considered among the top-20 draft prospects.

In his final year at Georgia, Wyatt contributed to the Bulldogs' defense as a starter in all 10 games and led the team with 25 total stops as their leading tackler at DT. Additionally, he contributed significantly to their success on the ground by recording 1.5 sacks and 27 QB pressures this season.

Wyatt is an impressive athlete with impressive quickness and burst for penetration. As an inside defender, he can take the edge and shoot gaps with his strong hands while maintaining good balance. While not the strongest of all defensive ends, his strength allows him to anchor and shed any potential threats.

When playing against the run, Wyatt's change of direction and lateral mobility allow him to overcome zone blocks and slide across the front. His motor skills and hand-eye coordination allow him to string together rush moves.

Though he may not be the ideal three-technique in a 4-3 defense, his five-technique nose tackle abilities allow him to compete at the next level. While his lower body strength may limit him when facing double teams, he is capable of finishing strong against single blocking backs.

Wyatt's versatility is critical as the Packers move deeper on the interior defensive line. He'll allow Kenny Clark to play more outside while creating lanes for those behind him, such as T.J. Slaton (2021 fifth round pick who has shown improvement throughout this season).

Although he hasn't seen much action this year, Wyatt's speed and athleticism make him a potentially dynamic center-of-the-line player. The Packers must develop him further during his rookie season to maximize his potential, but he's an incredibly promising talent that deserves to be part of their long term plan.

MJ Sherman

Georgia boasts an impressive defensive line, featuring top-tier players such as edge rushers Chaz Chambliss and Marvin Jones Jr., plus linebackers Rian Davis and Trezmen Marshall. However, their linebacker room isn't quite as deep as their front seven; Nolan Smith and Robert Beal both left for the NFL this season, while star safeties David Daniel-Sisavanh and Major Burns transferred away.

That means they'll likely face plenty of turnover at the position, with many of their best players likely coming from the transfer portal. They have already secured three commitments from outside sources such as Mississippi State receiver Rara Thomas and Missouri's Dominic Lovett, but they must remain aggressive over the next few months in order to maximize their chances for success.

The Bulldogs, who were defending national champions, had a formidable defense that played admirably against Clemson. That included cornerbacks Brini Smith and Speed who combined for six tackles and a pick-six.

Jackson and other key contributors from two years ago will be key components to the program's success this year. They need to be able to step in when needed but not get overworked playing too many snaps against some of the NFL's toughest defensive teams.

Sherman is 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, having run a verified 4.53 in the 40-yard dash while in high school. That kind of speed is unheard-of for an outside linebacker and Sherman hopes to bring that talent to Nebraska - who desperately need it right now.

He's an ideal fit for Nebraska's pass rush and should be an impact player at a high level at an elite college. With potential to be a first-round draft pick, he can help fill an important need at a position that desperately needs depth.

The Huskers boast a solid group of transfers and have added Princewill Umanmielen, Kai Wallin and Maverick Noonan as talented freshmen. However, this class still lacks some of last year's defensive line production; MJ Sherman could provide just what they need to fill that void.
