Duke Basketball - Where Is Duke Basketball From 2023?
As Duke Basketball bids farewell to coach Mike Krzyzewski, it is clear that a new era is underway. Former player and assistant Jon Scheyer has been named the new leader of the Blue Devils, and he is off to an excellent start.
The Blue Devils are 11-3 and ranked 16th in the country, but their offense is a big question mark heading into conference play. They currently rank 47th in KenPom's offensive rankings, but they should improve that by March.
After eight years as a key member of Mike Krzyzewski’s coaching staff, Jon Scheyer was named the next Duke men’s basketball coach. The former All-American has already established himself as a leader in the ACC and will be the youngest head coach of a power conference program at age 35 when the 2022-23 season starts.
On Friday morning, Scheyer was officially announced as the 20th head coach of Duke University’s storied basketball program. He will take over from Coach K, who recently announced his retirement following the 2021-22 season.
Scheyer is the 20th head coach in Duke men’s basketball history and has been with the Blue Devils since 2013. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2018 and was on the sidelines when the team took home the championship trophy during the 2019 NCAA tournament.
In his first year at the helm, Scheyer will lean into an important philosophy in college basketball that has been proven time and again to be a driving force for team success: get as many big-name teams playing each other on campus courts. That’s why Duke and Arizona will play a two-year series that will begin at Duke in 2023, then go to Arizona for the final year of the agreement in 2024.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of this type of deal in college sports, particularly with conference realignment roiling the world of collegiate basketball. Getting a chance to host games against high-major opponents is vital in boosting fan interest and establishing the program’s place in collegiate basketball’s lore.
During the press conference, Scheyer also revealed that the 2023-23 team will feature the highest number of players ever from the state of North Carolina in one season. That’s a nod to the recent rise of North Carolina athletics and its ties to the Duke campus.
The addition of North Carolina signees such as Grayson Allen and Shayeann Day-Wilson to the roster was a big plus for Scheyer, who will have a talented young core on his squad. But the bigger story for Scheyer is how he’ll fill his coaching staff with experienced and seasoned assistants.
Duke's 2023 class is shaping up to be just as good, if not better than its top-ranked 2022 group. As of Wednesday, the Blue Devils have six verbal commitments, all five-star prospects.
This class is loaded with talent that could make a deep run in the upcoming NCAA tournament, as it includes three players who were ranked among the top four players in their respective classes and one who was ranked No. 1 nationally.
Despite the loss of Grayson Allen, who has been injured since his junior season, and Mark Mitchell, who has yet to make a decision, the Blue Devils' class is still stacked. With five-stars and top 40 talents like Jared McCain, Mackenzie Mgbako, and Sean Stewart already verbally committed to the program, there's no reason to think that Duke won't make a deep run in this cycle.
Another key piece of the puzzle is the frontcourt, which features Kyle Filipowski, Ryan Young, Jacob Grandison, and Mark Mitchell. That's a long, deep group that should be able to take some of the pressure off younger, less experienced players such as Jeremy Roach and Grayson Whitehead.
The team also possesses a big man in Isaiah Blakes, who appears to have a chance to carve out an important role this season. The 6-foot-8, 215-pound freshman is a physical presence in the paint who can fade away or overpower defenders with his big-man moves. He isn't a great outside shooter, but he can put up points at the college level and could be an important piece for a team that needs one.
With the addition of a number of freshmen, Scheyer has some work to do if he wants to keep his team competitive through January. The Blue Devils' schedule has plenty of winnable games ahead, including a trip to Miami, a visit to Virginia Tech, a home game against Georgia Tech, and a rematch with Wake Forest.
It's a tall order to fill, but Scheyer could do it by utilizing his bench. If he can get more production from the likes of Proctor, Whitehead, and Jacob Grandison, as well as the other big men, it'll help to lighten the load on the starters in these critical games.
Freshman forward Shayeann Day-Wilson may be one of the most promising players on the Duke basketball team this season. The Canadian is the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference rookie of the year and was also the top player in Canada last summer, when she led her country to gold at the U-19 World Cup in Hungary.
Her story is one of perseverance and hard work. Her mother Rose Day did everything she could to ensure that Day-Wilson’s three siblings were well taken care of and she made sure to teach them all the values that are integral to being a good person.
Despite all the difficulties in her life, Day-Wilson never gave up and went on to become the fifth Duke basketball player in history to win ACC rookie of the year honours. After a season that saw her lead Duke in both points per game and assists per game, Lawson is expecting her to continue to improve as she gets more settled into life as a college student.
While Day-Wilson is a talented point guard, she won’t be able to do much without her teammates. This year, Duke has no seniors with any meaningful experience on the floor, so it will be up to her and her teammates to carry the Blue Devils to another run at the NCAA tournament.
She can be counted on to start for the majority of games this season. Her performance in the first two games of the season, against NC State and Louisville, showed that she can score big numbers.
This week, she scored a career-high 24 points to help the Blue Devils upset Iowa on Sunday. She was 8-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from deep in the game.
In her career, Day-Wilson has averaged 17.4 points and 3.7 assists per game. She has a long way to go before she can be considered a top-tier player, but she will do her best to make that happen this season.
Day-Wilson is a strong shooter and her ability to put the ball on the floor will be key in determining who wins games for Duke this season. She can be expected to be a major factor in the outcome of many games this season, and she has a bright future ahead of her.
After a long, recruiting-rich offseason, Duke is now set to take on another top-ranked class from 2023. The Blue Devils already have four players verbally committed to their program, including three Top 5 recruits in Jaden Schutt, Dariq Whitehead and Kyle Filipowski, and one of the nation's top five overall players in Mackenzie Mgbako.
Meanwhile, the Blue Devils' freshmen have emerged as a key part of the team. Freshman guards Celeste Taylor and Shayeann Day-Wilson are averaging 18.3 minutes per game and both have turned in outstanding performances this season, while sophomore Jaylen Blakes is averaging more than 17 points per game.
The Blue Devils also have a talented trio of freshmen at forward, as they lead the ACC with an average of 17.8 rebounds a game. Sophomores Reigan Richardson and Ashlon Jackson are both 6-foot-1 and averaging more than 18 minutes a game, while freshmen Kiki Rice and Vanessa de Jesus are both 6-foot-3 and averaging more than 15 minutes a game.
With a number of freshmen playing significant roles, there is no question that the Blue Devils' depth will be a major strength throughout the year. This team is a combination of talent and experience, which should be ideal for the future as Duke enters its transitional season under first-year coach Jon Scheyer.
Sophomore Jaylen Blakes, who was a starting point guard last season, is looking to make a bigger impact this year after missing all of last season with a knee injury. He scored a career-high 19 points against North Carolina, and the Blue Devils will need him to play more like that this season.
As the Blue Devils have shown this season, defense is their calling card. They have held each of their opponents to less than 50 points this season and have won all six games by more than 21.2 points.
While the Blue Devils have been impressive, they have yet to match the level of success they enjoyed a year ago when they reached the Final Four. With seven of the 13 scholarship spots now taken up by true freshmen and no seniors with significant experience in a Duke uniform, there is no question that Scheyer's first team will have to gel quickly to replicate the results from last year's group.
Duke and North Carolina will meet in one of the sport’s most historic rivalries on Saturday night. The teams will play at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, NC.
The Blue Devils will be looking to build off of their first-year coach Jon Scheyer’s successful recruiting class. He’s brought in some of the top recruits from around the country, including ESPN’s No. 27 prospect Oluchi Okananwa.
If you're a Duke basketball fan, there's no better place to watch their games than the ACC Network. This ESPN-owned channel airs a variety of sports and features original programming, such as "Packer and Durham." If you don't have cable TV, it's easy to stream the ACC Network live on your computer, smartphone or tablet.
ACC Network is available on select Spectrum packages, depending on your location. Check your local television provider's website to find out if the ACC Network is available at your home.
You can also watch ACC Network by subscribing to a streaming service like Hulu with Live TV or Sling TV. These services offer a free trial that allows you to watch all the ACC Network's games for a week before the billing period starts.
The ACC Network will feature at least 450 events in its first year, including 40 football games and 150 men's and women's basketball games. It will also include hundreds of other sporting events from across the conference's 27 sponsored sports, as well as news and information shows and original content.
In addition to televised events, ACCN will also provide coverage on its digital platform, ACCNX, which is offered via the ESPN App. The ACCNX will feature live sports, news and other programming, with the goal of delivering a superior experience for ACC fans.
One of the most exciting and historic college basketball rivalries is the Duke-North Carolina matchup, which takes place on Saturday in Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham. Both teams enter the game with a 15-7 record and 7-4 in the ACC.
North Carolina, led by coach Roy Williams, has won the last two meetings between the schools. They come into this game on a four-game winning streak, while Duke has lost its past two games.
Both teams have a lot of young players that are learning the ropes under new coaches. This is a big chance for the Blue Devils to prove they can hang with the Tar Heels.
It's a classic ACC rivalry, and a game that will be broadcast live on ESPN. You can stream the game on Sling (half off your first month), fuboTV (free trial) and YouTube TV.
Duke basketball fans can now watch live streams of their favorite games thanks to Sling TV. It offers a wide selection of live sports channels and on-demand content, as well as free DVR storage in case you miss any moments.
Sling is a great choice for sports enthusiasts looking to cut their monthly TV bill by half. Its lineup of channels includes ESPN, ACC Network, and a handful of other major networks, as well as popular regional sports networks like AT&T SportsNet and Bally Sports.
It also offers a range of extras, including Heartland, Hollywood and Broadcast packages, plus an impressive array of foreign-language channels. Prices vary by package.
Another key feature is Sling's Cloud DVR, which lets you record up to 50 hours of your favorite shows so you can watch them at a later time. It's important to note that this feature does not work on every channel, so check with your service provider first.
You'll need at least 5 Mbps of internet speed to watch Sling on a computer, tablet or smart TV. However, this is likely enough for most mobile devices, too.
If you're not sure if Sling is right for you, consider trying it out with a free trial. It's worth a shot, and you can always cancel it if you don't find it meets your needs.
Sling is one of the most affordable options for streaming live TV, and it's compatible with a wide range of devices. It's also one of the few services that allows you to integrate your antenna channel into its interface.
In addition, it's the only streaming service that allows you to pause live broadcasts and resume them later. Using this feature is a great way to avoid missing important moments or rushing through a series of episodes.
The only downside is that Sling's interface can be a bit cumbersome. It often reopens a separate window that shows you a description of what's playing before clicking "Watch Live" to actually watch the show.
It's a small issue, but it's one that could be frustrating if you're used to watching live broadcasts on traditional cable TV. Sling also doesn't have many local broadcasts to choose from, and most of them are available only in select markets.
When it comes to watching the Duke Blue Devils basketball team play live, YouTube TV is a solid choice. This live streaming service from Google offers a large selection of channels for sports fans and has a free cloud DVR that's great for recording games and shows.
In addition to the basic channels, YouTube TV also includes 15 additional sports channels in its Sports Plus package for an extra $11/mo. These include ESPN family of networks; Fox Sports networks; league networks for MLB, NBA, and NFL; and college sports networks like ACC Network, Big Ten Network, and SEC Network.
For even more sports, YouTube TV is partnered with a handful of premium sports cable channels, including Showtime, HBO, and Starz. This makes the service a good option for fans of those sports, though it's worth noting that YouTube TV only offers the Starz channel in some regions and only in 4K.
The best part about YouTube TV is that it's available on a wide variety of devices, including smart TVs and mobile devices like phones and tablets. Its streamlined app interface is easy to use and the service's live guide and cloud DVR are among the best in the business.
If you're a die-hard fan of the Blue Devils, you won't want to miss this game. It's a must-see ACC rivalry and features two teams that are looking to continue their streak of success.
It's a matchup between teams that have won five of the last six conference championships. You can watch the game on a number of services, including fuboTV (free trial), Sling (half off first month) and other live TV services.
You can also watch the game on TBS, if you subscribe to a streaming service that provides access to TBS. This is a great option for fans of the national title game, as TBS is the official host.
However, keep in mind that most professional leagues have blackout rules if you aren't located in an approved media market. In addition, you may have to pay more to stream the game if you live outside of the U.S.
DIRECTV Stream is one of the most popular streaming alternatives to cable and satellite TV. It offers a variety of popular channels, including big-time sports networks and news channels. It also offers an extensive library of on-demand content and cloud DVR functionality.
Unlike traditional cable or satellite TV, DIRECTV Stream uses Internet Protocol (IP) technology to deliver television programs and video-on-demand (VOD) content to your home over the internet. This allows you to access your DIRECTV Stream subscription on your smartphone, tablet, computer or smart TV. Depending on which device you want to use, you'll need high-speed internet to view your content.
The DIRECTV Stream app is available on Android and iOS devices, as well as web browsers. It also works on streaming media devices like Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, Roku and Samsung Smart TV. To get the most out of DIRECTV Stream, you'll need a recent version of Google's OS (Oreo or newer for Android, and iOS 12 or later for Apple).
It has four packages that range from a monthly cost of $70 for more than 65 channels to $150 for more than 140. These packages come with a cloud DVR that lets you record up to three shows at once, which you can watch from any location.
Another big selling point for DIRECTV Stream is that it gives you access to regional sports networks (RSNs), which are the channels that have the rights to certain teams' games. These are usually local NBA, MLB, NHL and MLS teams. Most of the streaming services that were once able to provide them have lost their access, so DIRECTV Stream is a welcome option for fans of these local teams.
However, DIRECTV Stream has fewer channels than other streaming services like YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV. It's also a bit more expensive than those services, which means that DIRECTV Stream isn't the best choice for most cord-cutters.
If you're interested in DIRECTV Stream, you'll have to sign up for a free trial first. You can do so by visiting the DIRECTV Stream website and entering your ZIP code. This will show you if DIRECTV Stream is available in your area.
With more than a century of basketball tradition, the Duke Blue Devils are one of the most famous programs in NCAA history. They also have a long history of success in the tournament.
In 2023, first-year head coach Jon Scheyer leads the team into a tough stretch of games, including ACC play. This includes games against Boston College and Pittsburgh, and a trip to Clemson.
Jeremy Roach is a famous basketball player who is currently a junior at Duke University. He is a consensus five-star recruit and was ranked in the top 10 of the 2020 class. He was also a high school star and a gold medalist at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup.
Roach is a true lead guard who has advanced play-making skills, excellent ball-handling and penetration abilities. He is also a great passer who excels at finding teammates on the court.
He was a McDonald’s All-American in 2022 and is a top candidate for the NBA draft. He was also a star in his high school career at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Virginia.
His parents, Joe and Carole, are his biggest inspirations. They are very proud of him at all times and they have always supported him in his career.
The Blue Devils needed a big play against North Carolina, and that came from Jeremy Roach in the final seconds of the game on Saturday. He scored a contested layup off a screen from Kyle Filipowski, a play that his coach Jon Scheyer drew up out of a timeout.
It was the type of play that only Roach could have made — and it helped Duke win a crucial game. Ultimately, the junior point guard helped give the Blue Devils some redemption after an offensive performance that sparked their infamous loss to UNC in last year’s Final Four.
He has logged 14 games started across 15 matchups this season and will likely be part of the starting lineup again in Saturday’s game against Miami. However, he has not played the past three games due to an injury and may come off the bench in the matchup against Pitt on Wednesday night.
The annual Tobacco Road showdown between Duke and North Carolina is an essential part of the college basketball season. The two teams have a long and storied history together, with the Tar Heels having won four of the last five meetings. This year, however, the rivalry is a little different as both teams are in the early stages of new programs with relatively inexperienced coaches.
The game had a lot of hype surrounding it. Not only was it a big matchup for conference standing, but it also pitted two men who had played in the rivalry earlier in their careers: first-year Duke coach Jon Scheyer and second-year UNC coach Hubert Davis.
When the game began, the Tar Heels were in control. But after a few minutes, the Blue Devils found their stride. Tyrese Proctor scored on a driving bank shot in the lane.
He later followed that with a driving layup in the lane off an inbound pass from Roach. Then Filipowski hit another 3-pointer and the Blue Devils were up by eight with 16:20 to play.
But the Tar Heels fought back and trimmed Duke's lead to 45-41 before the break. During the second half, UNC went scoreless for an extended stretch of nine minutes.
During that time, the Blue Devils' defense was strong as they held Carolina without a field goal over that period. That was all that they needed to pull out a win.
This was the start of a string of five wins for Duke in the final seven games of the season. It helped the Blue Devils win the ACC regular-season championship and coach Mike Krzyzewski earn his 500th victory in the process.
If you told anyone last year that this North Carolina team would spoil Coach K night at Cameron, knock Duke out of the Final Four and come within an eyelash of beating Kansas in the national championship game, they’d have laughed out loud. And yet, the 2021-22 Tar Heels have done all that and more.
When Johnson is healthy, he is an important player in the rotation. He adds length and athleticism that allows him to play small forward, but also stretch the floor. He also has the ability to pass and move the ball effectively.
Johnson is also a good scorer and he has a nice shooting touch from 3-point range. Unlike many of his teammates, he is not shy about taking risks in the paint, which will help him grow as a player.
He is one of the more talented players off the bench for Coach Hubert Davis, but his injury history is a concern. He often has knee or foot issues, which he needs to resolve before he can really take over a game.
His injury problems have not stopped him from scoring in double figures, however, as he averages 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game this season. He is a great candidate to be a breakout player in 2019.
The Blue Devils had a big advantage on fast breaks, gaining 16-0 on the Tar Heels in the first half. Then Duke made their offense work, with Proctor and Roach each scoring on a breakaway bucket that boosted the lead to a six-point margin. In the final two minutes, UNC had a chance to get back in front, but a Proctor 3-pointer was ruled inbounds and Lively buried it for Duke.
The Duke Blue Devils have been on a roll of late, winning their past four games and making it to the Final Four. In their first meeting since Mike Krzyzewski’s retirement, the Duke team came out on top 63-57 against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
While there were several factors that went into the game, one of the most impressive was Leaky Black’s performance. He was UNC’s best lockdown defender, while also acting as a facilitator on offense.
This season, Black has established himself as a key player in North Carolina’s lineup and has become one of the top three-point shooters in the ACC. He is averaging career-highs in points, rebounds and field goal percentage this year.
He also has been playing a role in the defensive end of the floor, having established himself as a consistent shot-blocker and rebounder. He’s been a force in the paint and on the offensive glass, and he’s a big reason why UNC has been so good at the defensive end of the floor this season.
In the second half, he was able to help Duke establish their biggest lead of the game. Roach scored eight of the Blue Devils’ final 10 points, including a tiebreaking dunk with 1:35 to go in the game.
The win against the Tar Heels is a major step forward for Duke and puts them on the path to winning their first ACC championship. While this is a disappointing loss for UNC, it’s not a bad way to begin a stretch of four games against teams from the ACC.
The Duke Blue Devils have been on flutters of late, winning their past four games and establishing themselves as a powerhouse in the ACC. They will be a top-four team in the conference once again and have a great chance to win the NCAA tournament this season.
Love, the son of former NBA player Stan Love, was a top high school prospect out of Lake Oswego High School in Oregon. He had a promising college career at UCLA, but opted to forgo his final three years of eligibility and entered the 2008 NBA draft. He ended up playing for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He was a consensus First Team All-American in the Pac-12 Conference and a member of the 2008 NCAA championship team. He was named to the All-Rookie Team by the AP and was selected the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft.
In addition to his college playing career, Love is a professional basketball coach who works with youth players in his home city of Calgary, Canada. He also has appeared in a number of Pepsi Max commercials.
Duke had a tough time scoring in the first half, but they came out strong in the second quarter. Roach, Black and Love all hit big 3-pointers to help Duke take a ten-point lead.
But UNC came back and stayed close until the Blue Devils pulled away. Neither side was able to score the points needed down the stretch, and in the end it was Duke's aggressive defense that helped the Blue Devils win their first game against the Tar Heels since Scheyer took over.
When asked about his first win over the Tar Heels, Scheyer said it felt good to get the job done in front of his hometown fans. He said the rivalry will always be an important part of Duke's history, and he is proud to be a part of it.
The Tar Heels, meanwhile, enter the game a Quad 1 loss and will need to find a way to get their offense going against a quality opponent. They will also have to get better on the defensive end against a Blue Devils team that is ranked in the top 10 in the ACC and has a number of talented shooters.
Duke basketball ranked 2023 is shaping up to be a very good team. That's because the Blue Devils have one of the best recruiting classes in the country this year.
This team is loaded with future NBA talent. They have a strong core of players in Lively, Filipowski, Mitchell, Whitehead and Proctor that should all play in the NBA soon.
The ACC is one of the five Power Five conferences in major college athletics, along with the Big Ten, SEC, AAC and MAC. It is a 15-school Division I FBS conference that spans the eastern United States and part of the midwest. It is best known for its championship success in football, but its teams also dominate other sports.
The conference was founded in 1953, when seven schools left the Southern Conference to form the ACC. The new conference was a major shake-up in college sports. The original member schools included Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest.
Since its founding, the ACC has won or shared 50 tournament titles and 59 regular season titles. The ACC has produced several of the most legendary players in college basketball history, including Michael Jordan and Ralph Sampson of Virginia.
Among the ACC's most famous coaches are Everett Case and Frank McGuire of North Carolina, Jim Valvano and Dean Smith of North Carolina State, Vic Bubas and Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, Press Maravich and Norm Sloan of Miami, Lefty Driesell and Gary Williams of Maryland, Bobby Cremins of Georgia Tech and Rick Pitino of Louisville.
Over the years, the ACC has produced 26 #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. However, this is the third year in a row that the ACC has failed to produce a top seed.
With less than a month to go in the 2022-23 season, the ACC looks nothing like that stunning historical snapshot. While the conference has produced a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament 26 times over the past 29 seasons, it will likely fail to do so again.
The Big Ten has a number of teams that are looking to make noise this season. Some of these teams have had an amazing start to the conference season, while others have struggled.
The first team that I would like to talk about is Purdue. The Boilermakers have won two of the last three weeks and they are now ranked #1 in these power rankings.
They have had a fantastic non-conference schedule that includes playing two top-25 ranked teams on neutral courts. This helps them earn a spot in the top of these power rankings as the strength of their schedule plays a large role in this ranking system.
However, the only thing that I am concerned about is that they haven’t won a game by a double-digit margin yet this season. That will change quickly as they play against Indiana and Illinois this week, both of which have been very good teams so far.
This team has been relying too much on Matthew Mayer and Terrence Shannon, which isn’t the best way to win games. If they can find someone else to play alongside them, I think they could be a force in the Big Ten this year.
But this team has a lot of work to do to become the kind of team that can beat teams by double-digits, let alone teams with a higher overall ranking. That’s a very tall order, and that’s why they aren’t ranked as high as some other teams in the Big Ten right now.
While Wisconsin has a decent resume, their recent losses to both Michigan and Ohio State have really taken a toll on them. They are now ranked 51st nationally and are 10th in the Big Ten.
When it comes to college basketball, the SEC is known as a powerhouse. It has 14 schools, a national television network and is a place where many of the best players in the country go to school. But this slick, money-printing, championship-winning conference doesn’t just excel on the gridiron.
The SEC is also home to several of the biggest rivalries in the nation, including Florida vs. Kentucky, Arkansas vs. Vanderbilt and Alabama vs. LSU, among others.
These rivalries keep the sport exciting and allow fans to see their favorite teams face off against one another. This makes for an incredible atmosphere on the court, especially when two SEC opponents come to town.
This year’s 2022-23 season is already shaping up to be an interesting one in the SEC, with a number of teams looking to make a run at the NCAA Tournament. Let’s take a look at some of the top teams in the league and how they rank so far this year.
While some of the top teams in the league have been struggling to put together a winning record so far, there are still plenty of reasons to believe that they will be back at the top of the rankings by the time March Madness rolls around.
For starters, there are some great returning players on this team, including Kobe Brown and Isiah Mosley. They also have an intriguing group of transfers coming in, including Mizzou transfer Trevon Brazile.
Meanwhile, the backcourt should be an interesting mix for this team. They have a talented guard duo in Pack and Wong, along with some quality bench pieces in Joseph, Beverly and Miller.
The frontcourt will also be a key factor this season, with Omier, Casey and Aire all having high ceilings as well. This could be a dynamic team if they get some good matchups in the tournament.
The American Athletic Conference will become a 14-team league in 2023, losing three teams — Cincinnati, Houston and UCF — and adding six new schools from Conference USA. The move will give the AAC one of the largest media markets in the country, along with the opportunity to host its first Super Bowl and match the league's top two teams in the regular-season championship game.
The AAC has been a dominant force in college basketball, capturing four of the past five regular season titles and making the last two NCAA Tournaments. The AAC has also won the AAC Tournament for a pair of consecutive years, and will again play without divisions in 2023.
For 2023, the AAC will add a few up-and-coming programs that are moving into the conference from Conference USA. The additions include Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas and Rice.
This will be the first time in AAC history that the conference has added new members from outside the league, and it is a welcome move. The AAC is still losing a lot of its powerhouses to the Big 12 and some of the best teams in the country, so the move will allow the AAC to fill those voids and compete with other major conferences.
With so many new faces, there will be a lot of competition for the top spots in the AAC. But it will also be the case that a number of high-quality teams will have to work harder than ever to prove themselves.
Duke has a loaded recruiting class for 2023, and is likely to land at least one Top 5 player in its first class under head coach Jon Scheyer. While the Blue Devils may not be able to score as many points on offense this year as they did in their previous ACC title run, they have talent that should carry them to a solid finish in the conference.
After bringing in the top-ranked recruiting class in 2022, Duke Basketball is putting together another fantastic group of prep players for the 2022-23 season. With a total of five commitments, the Blue Devils are poised to bring one of the nation's top recruiting classes into Durham for the 2022-23 campaign.
Duke is going to be loaded with future NBA talent this year, including presumptive lottery picks Andrew Lively and Jaylan Filipowski. They'll also have other high-level NBA prospects like Javonte Mitchell, Tyus Whitehead, Tyrese Proctor and Ben Schutt.
The Blue Devils also have a veteran point guard in Jeremy Roach, who'll need to be healthy for the entire season to help Duke's young group gel. The key will be whether he can regain his old-school leadership.
While this year's MAC is not as strong on paper as last season's, it does feature a few teams that are likely to make some noise. The Miami Hurricanes, for instance, are a very solid team that has started the season with a pair of impressive victories over Georgia Tech and NC State.
They are not perfect and will still have a few bumps along the way, but they have a great chance of making some noise in the league this year. In fact, they could even challenge for the ACC title.
In addition to Florida State, the MAC features a couple of other teams that will be looking to take the next step in 2022-23. The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off a season that saw them go on an unassailable run to the Final Four and avenge a loss to their rivals, the Kentucky Wildcats.
Dana Altman has put together a strong roster with plenty of veteran leaders, which will be crucial for the young team to learn from this year. They have an elite wing in Mackenzie Mgbako, two top-shelf guards in Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor and a dominant frontcourt player in Sean Stewart.
Duke has been one of the most successful college basketball teams in America for decades under coach Mike Krzyzewski. They are the fourth-winningest program in NCAA history with five NCAA Men's Division I Championships and 17 Final Four appearances.
With a stacked ACC conference and fresh coaching, fans have a lot to look forward to this season under Jon Scheyer. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your trip to see the Blue Devils play again 2023.
The 2022-2023 college basketball season is about to begin, and it will be a crucial time for Duke fans. This year, the Blue Devils are looking to win a conference regular-season title and earn an NCAA tournament bid. The team has had plenty of success under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, but it will still be a challenge for the team to reach its goals this season.
Krzyzewski’s coaching career has spanned four decades, during which time he has led Duke to five NCAA championships, making him one of the most successful coaches in college sports history. Many of his assistants and former players have gone on to become head basketball coaches at major universities, while other former players have made it to the NBA.
There are a lot of things that make up a great basketball team, but the most important aspect is the trust that players have with each other. This is something that has been a huge part of the Blue Devils' success under Coach Krzyzewski.
For this reason, a lot of emphasis has been placed on building trust between players. This is often done through what's known as "Dear World" sessions, in which players meet with their teammates for an hour or two each day to get to know them better.
This is a great way to help build chemistry between teammates, especially when newcomers are added to the roster. As a result, the Blue Devils are consistently ranked high in the NCAA.
In 2023, Duke will be facing a lot of ACC teams that are all aiming to make a run at the conference championship and/or an NCAA tournament bid. These include North Carolina, Wake Forest, Boston College, Miami and NC State.
The ACC has also been a tough place to play for the Blue Devils in recent years. With the exception of their ACC championship game win over Florida State in 2016, Duke has lost four of its last five games in the ACC, including an overtime loss to Virginia Tech in 2018.
This will be a great opportunity for the Blue Devils to show their competitiveness and prove that they can compete with ACC teams. It will also be a chance to build a strong fan base in the process.
Duke is an American university that sponsors a men's basketball team. It has been one of the top teams in college sports for more than 30 years under coach Mike Krzyzewski, and has a long list of alumni who have gone on to become head coaches at major colleges and the NBA.
The Blue Devils play in the Atlantic Coast Conference and have won five NCAA championships, which is tied with Indiana for fourth all-time behind Kentucky and UCLA. They've also appeared in 11 Championship Games and 17 Final Fours.
While the team has plenty of competition in the ACC, the rivalry between Duke and North Carolina is considered the best in the nation. The schools are located less than 10 miles from each other, and the fans at Cameron Indoor Stadium know how to scream their heads off.
A recent win against North Carolina helped the Blue Devils to start the season with a 5-2 record, which is their best since a 6-1 start in 2007. They went on to beat Clemson, Florida State and Maryland in the next three weeks.
Despite the loss to Miami on Monday, the Blue Devils are still in good shape for an ACC run. They're still ranked in the Top 25 and are a strong favorite to win the league.
After a big win over rival UNC, the Blue Devils went on the road and played their most sloppy game of the season against Miami. After scoring a few early points, they had 17 turnovers and couldn't get their offense going.
The Hurricanes took advantage of the Blue Devils' sluggish play, running out to a 13-1 lead and building a 25-point halftime lead before a Blue Devil rally was halted. It wasn't until the 11-minute mark that Duke had a field goal, and by the 12-minute mark they were missing all five of their shots from the field.
This resulted in an 81-59 loss to the Hurricanes. The loss was their fifth in the last six games and left the Blue Devils in a two-way tie for second place in the ACC.
March is when college basketball fever starts to kick in. From the "First Four" games to the NCAA Sweet 16 and on into the Final Four, fans everywhere get to watch their favorite teams compete. Don your team's favorite colors and be there when all the action hits the court.
Duke is one of the most decorated college programs in the country, but it hasn't won a national championship since the 1980s. The Blue Devils haven't reached the Final Four since 2006.
There are a few things that can help the 2023 Blue Devils improve on their previous record and make it to the tournament again. The first is that the team must improve its shooting.
It's a problem that's plagued the team in recent years, and it's something that coach Jon Scheyer wants to fix. Despite the fact that the Blue Devils have been led by a number of players with great shooting skills, they still hit only 40% of their field goals last season.
They also struggled against teams with strong defenses. In a loss to Clemson, for example, the Blue Devils shot just 3-of-11 from the field in the second half and trailed by 18 points.
While the Blue Devils have a solid core of experienced players, including several who have played in the NBA, they're missing the sort of high-flying offensive talents that made Krzyzewski such a successful coach. The team doesn't have any true shooting guards, and it's not a particularly good perimeter defense.
The other issue is that the team's turnovers are at an all-time high. It's a problem that's caused them to miss some key shots in games such as the 68-66 loss to Miami and the 65-67 loss to NC State.
If Duke's coaching staff can fix its shooting problems and find a way to slow down its opponents' offense, then the Blue Devils could be in for a good year. The ACC is a tough conference with many of its top teams playing away from home, and there's plenty of conference play to look forward to.
During the first six weeks of every college basketball season, many of the big teams are playing each other in on-campus venues. Duke brings that cachet with its Cameron Indoor Stadium, which hosts a lot of the ACC's biggest games each year.
But it's also home to one of the sport's most diehard fan bases, known as the "Cameron Crazies." This group is responsible for the hardwood floor being named in honor of head coach Mike Krzyzewski and a tent city outside the stadium called "Krzyzewskiville."
The Blue Devils are known for their five national championships and 82 NCAA Tournament appearances, but they haven't had an undefeated season since 2006. Now, with new head coach Jon Scheyer taking over, the program has some major games on its calendar that can help determine whether or not it stays among the nation's elite.
While the ACC and ESPN have yet to announce a date or time for the 2022-2023 season, some of the bigger game matchups are starting to take shape. There's a matchup with Kansas, the team that won last season's NCAA title, then an ACC-Big Ten Challenge with Ohio State and a possible tournament game with Gonzaga or Florida.
In the conference, Duke has a home-and-home series with Boston College and a pair of road tilts against Wake Forest, Miami and NC State. A December game against Iowa from the Big Ten is also possible, as is a matchup with the ACC's other top team, Virginia Tech.
Throughout the history of the program, the Blue Devils have been a team to watch on the national level. Their players have a deep roster filled with NCAA-caliber talent, but they have also proven to be a team that values family and friendships on and off the court.
They've been known for their "Brotherhood" motto, which is a way of saying that they trust each other and care about each other, no matter what team they're on or what team it's against. It's a value that they share with their fans and the world.
They've been a top college basketball program for decades, and they are one of the nation's most popular. But their success can't be attributed to just the talent on their court; it's also the strength of their leadership under coach Mike Krzyzewski.
