Boomer Esiason, Cincinnati Bengals quarter_back, who retired on February 8, 2002, recovered from a form of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, was the first quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to five Super Bowl appearances. That same year, he was nominated for a starting All-Pro selection which caused him to consider ending his career. He eventually returned after announcing his retirement.
