Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 25 points and Jalen Hood-Schifino delivered the clinching basket on a dunk with 2 seconds left as No. 21 Indiana beat No. 1 Purdue 79-74 Saturday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
The win marked the fourth total victory for Indiana against a top-ranked team at Assembly Hall under second-year coach Mike Woodson. A roaring, raucous crowd stayed on its feet all game and wasted no time storming the court after the final buzzer sounded.
Indiana won its fifth consecutive game Saturday. The Hoosiers beat their archrival Purdue 79-74 on a breakaway dunk by Jalen Hood-Schifino with 2 seconds left.
Jackson-Davis scored 25 points, moving within 16 points of becoming the first Indiana player to reach 2,000 and 1,000 rebounds, and the Hoosiers ended a 24-game Big Ten losing streak against their rivals. The junior also added seven rebounds and five blocks, which is the most for an Indiana player against a top-ranked team since Marcus Camby had 25 points and five blocks in November 1995 against Kentucky.
The Hoosiers led by 16 in the first half. They forced 16 turnovers and shot 52.6% against a defense that had held 24 consecutive opponents to 70 or fewer points.
But Edey positioned the Boilermakers for an unlikely comeback by scoring eight of their first 10 second-half points to cut a 15-point deficit to nine. He then scored six in a 12-4 spurt that made it 67-65 with 5:40 to play.
Still, the 7-foot-4 Edey was unable to stop Indiana from making another run. He missed his only shot in the final 5:40, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Hoosiers from winning despite getting outrebounded 38-22 and nearly blowing a 16-point lead.
Even so, the Hoosiers showed their mettle as they were the preseason pick to win the Big Ten. They did everything they needed to do early - make shots, ramp up the pace and generally make life difficult for Purdue.
While the Hoosiers won a close game against a top-ranked team, it wasn’t their best performance of the year. They lost at Maryland earlier in the week and are now 8-5 overall and 5-5 in the conference. But they have won three straight, and may move up the standings.
Jackson-Davis sparked a strong first half by scoring off of Fletcher Loyer's turnover early on and hustling down court to recover a missed layup from Braden Smith. His hustle helped Indiana to a 21-10 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first half.
It was a perfect start for the Hoosiers, who did everything they needed to early - making shots, ramping up the pace and generally making life difficult for Purdue. But down the stretch, they struggled to close it out.
Despite the loss, IU (6-7, 7-5) remains in the Top 25. This is a huge step forward for the program, and it could help to solidify its position.
The Big Ten has two preseason player of the year contenders in Zach Edey and Trayce Jackson-Davis, both of whom are slated to play in the NBA draft this summer. While Jackson-Davis has been a standout in rim protection and scoring, his consistency in areas other than his shooting has made him stand out as well.
He has played a key role in winning three games this season and has been a big factor in the Hoosiers' recent success. He has posted 20 points or more in six games this season and has a team-high four double-doubles.
His most impressive performances have come in big situations. He had three buckets halting Purdue runs in the second half and then had an acrobatic layup with 25 seconds to go that put his team ahead five.
In a rivalry game that can be dominated by guard play, Jackson-Davis' performance as a post player showed that he has a real shot at becoming the Big Ten's player of the year. His rebounding numbers have improved over the course of the season and his scoring has increased as well.
If Jackson-Davis averages 20 points per game over the rest of this season, he would move into fourth place on the Hoosiers' all-time list for career points. He is also the fourth-leading rebounder in school history with 1,017 rebounds.
It was a good day for Jackson-Davis, who had an incredible first half and finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. He was named the Big Ten's player of the week, and he has a great chance to win National Player of the Year.
Trayce Jackson-Davis was one of the top players in the country when he first joined Indiana, but he's taken his game to another level lately. He's averaging 24.3 points, 13.4 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots in his last six games, and he's been the biggest factor in Indiana's surge since it started.
The Hoosiers won a big road game Saturday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and it was only possible because of another big effort by Jackson-Davis. He scored 25 points to help Indiana beat No. 1 Purdue, 79-74.
It was a win for Indiana in its first matchup against the Boilers, who entered the game as the top team in the country and hadn't lost on the road in the past nine games. The victory pushed Indiana to a record of 12-3, while Purdue dropped its second straight.
Jackson-Davis did all he could to stop the Boilers from exploiting their size advantage in the paint. He had five blocks, including three in the first half. His rebounding was also key, securing 22 of his 25 points off offensive boards.
He was especially strong against Zach Edey, who is 7-foot-4 and has been an unstoppable force in the paint this year. He was able to use his body to wreak havoc in the lane and dunk twice against Jackson-Davis.
But Jackson-Davis' recovery defense was outstanding, too. He was able to take away a few easy passes and keep the ball from entering the hands of Edey. He even scored off a turnover by Fletcher Loyer early in the game, putting the Hoosiers up 21-10 with 12:01 left in the first half.
The big man also did his part with his shot selection. He went to the free-throw line 8.9 times, and made six of them. He's a slightly below average free-throw shooter, but has made a lot of them this season.
It was a big day for Jackson-Davis and for the Hoosiers, who got back on track following a disappointing loss at Maryland. IU's fans celebrated long after the final buzzer, and it felt good to have Indiana atop the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll again.
The Hoosiers closed the first half with a 22-6 run that was powered by Jackson-Davis. He had nine points and a pair of alley-oop dunks to help the Hoosiers lead 43-26 at halftime.
In the second half, Jackson-Davis continued to shine. He scored 20 of Indiana’s 79 points as the Hoosiers beat No. 1 Purdue 79-74 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Saturday night.
Jackson-Davis led a resurgent Indiana, which has won seven of its last eight games. He also added seven rebounds and five blocks in the win over the Boilermakers, who had won four straight.
IU was able to take advantage of Purdue’s miscues and some poor ball handling in the first half. It also had a better shooting performance from behind the arc as well. It shot 50 percent from distance in the first half and a season-high 62% in the second.
But it was the defense that saved the Hoosiers in the second half. Indiana held Purdue to just 2 of 14 shots from 3-point range in the second half and had an 8-for-18 performance from behind the arc as a team.
Jalen Hood-Schifino had 16 points for the Hoosiers, who led by as many as 19 points in the second half. Those 16 points were good for second-most in the game and included a critical breakaway dunk with two seconds left that sealed the victory.
The student section at Assembly Hall went wild after IU defeated the Boilermakers for the first time since upsetting Michigan nearly 10 years ago. It was a thrilling and emotional victory for the Hoosiers, who have now won six of their last seven.
Trayce Jackson-Davis showed that he can be a force in the Big Ten and beyond this year. He finished with 25 points as No. 21 Indiana rolled to its fourth straight victory over a top-ranked team at home.
It was the fourth time Jackson-Davis has scored 25 points or more in a game this season. He’s the most consistent player in the Big Ten this year, and he continues to play hard every game.
Last week the AP poll saw the top two teams in the country lose, along with four other Top 10 teams. That means there is going to be a lot of change in this week's college basketball power rankings.
In the ACC, Tennessee is now on the ballot after a 2-1 week that included a neutral-court win over Kansas. But Arizona’s losses (at Utah, at Colorado on a neutral court and at Oregon) are much worse than Tennessee’s.
The Associated Press college basketball poll is a great place to start getting an idea of who the top teams are at any given moment. It also provides a benchmark of sorts for the public square to judge who might be headed to the NCAA tournament.
In this weekly column, we’ll examine each team on the AP Top 25 ballot and talk about whether or not they should be ranked. We’ll also give you our early projections for each team, based on the first month of the season.
We’ll start with one of the hottest teams in college basketball right now. It’s Purdue, a team that’s only lost one game and has a 9-2 record in Quad 1 games.
The Boilermakers showed some grit, savvy and completeness in road wins at Michigan and Minnesota, as well as on home court against Indiana. They did it against weaker competition, and it says a lot about how they’ll handle a tough schedule.
There were some big surprises this past week in the college basketball rankings, but one thing that stands out is how teams can climb or fall quickly. That's part of why I believe the AP poll should have a fair and honest ballot.
In that case, I have no problem with Arizona moving up a spot this week following its impressive win over Indiana. Wildcats leading scorer Azuolas Tubelis had a terrific game against the Hoosiers, scoring 21 points and adding seven rebounds.
A win against Tennessee this weekend will also help Arizona sort out its ranking going forward. The Wildcats could get as high as second in this week's AP poll.
Alabama could also move up a spot this week after beating Houston 71-65 last Saturday. Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats saw his team take down a top-ranked team already this season, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to see the Crimson Tide rise a spot in this week's AP poll.
As always, I expect more chaos in the AP poll this week as teams battle it out for the top spots. There will be a lot of parity, which I think is what we're looking for in the NCAA tournament.
The college basketball season is in full swing, and the AP Top 25 poll has provided the public with a baseline of who some of the best teams in the country are at any given moment.
That said, it's not always fair to put a team ahead of another just because they've won on the road or on their own court. That's why I try to look at the current season and not just the previous one.
In the case of Texas, it bounced back from its first loss of the season to Illinois by destroying Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Senior Christian Bishop exploded for 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
The same can be said for Kansas, which jumped out to a 17-point lead in its win at Missouri and never looked back. The Jayhawks will be a tough out for anyone in this week's AP poll.
It's a crazy week in college basketball. Fifteen ranked teams lost games and, as usual, the competition for the top spot was very tight.
That's where I come in, as a fan who is very careful to be fair and honest with my own AP top 25 ballot. I do this for a number of reasons.
First, I'm a huge believer in judging teams on their current performance and not their previous one. That's because, as I pointed out last week, seasons don't stand still.
So if you were thinking of ranking Kansas State higher than Texas after the Jayhawks beat the Longhorns on their home court, you should really reconsider that. The Jayhawks are unusually vulnerable at Allen Fieldhouse and it's hard to know how to judge teams that win there.
With the AP poll coming out each week, you can get a good idea of what's going on with some of the top teams in college basketball. That's particularly helpful for people who are new to the sport or just want to be able to follow a team's progress without having to go back to watch every single game.
The AP poll is also a great tool for getting a sense of where teams are standing in the NET rankings. Having a ranking gives you a baseline for what to expect from your favorite teams, which can help make sure you're making the right choices when it comes to putting together your own NCAA basketball betting strategy.
In the AP poll, teams can sometimes move up or fall down quickly. For example, Ohio State was ranked 22nd a week ago and moved to 23rd after pulling away at home against Michigan.
It's an exciting time to be a college basketball fan, as the season is already under way and we are just a few weeks away from the NCAA tournament. That means NET rankings, non-conference wins and NCAA basketball championship odds are all buzzing around the internet.
There's no reason to doubt the top-ranked team at this point, but it doesn't mean all of the other teams aren't worthy of consideration. For example, Maryland has a lot of positives but has also been the victim of a bit of bad luck lately (all seven of its losses have been Quad 1 games).
* Miami is worth mentioning again. It has two really good wins last week, at Virginia Tech and Clemson.
The key to this team will be whether it can find a third big man who can contribute on both ends of the floor. Jack Nunge is going to be the starter, but he had a long stretch in conference play last year where he looked burned out.
That will be a challenge, but it's not impossible. Freshman Kam Craft is a capable shooter from the outside and could see plenty of action this season, especially if he can learn the defense and terminology quickly. He'll have to be able to handle the rigors of Xavier's offense and get his shot up on a regular basis.
The AP Top 25 poll has turned over, and with it we have another opportunity to look at the latest rankings of the best college basketball teams. It's a great way to get a baseline of who is playing well and who isn't.
One team that jumped into the top 10 this week is Marquette, which has won 11 in a row and now has its highest ranking since February 2019. They're one of three Big East teams in the top 25, along with Xavier and Providence.
They haven't been this good in a long time, and they look like they're ready to make it deep into March. They aren't just beating bad teams, but good ones.
They're also playing well defensively, limiting opponents to 56% shooting from the field and 40% from 3-point range, which isn't an easy task for any team to do. It's a sign that Marquette is playing the type of basketball that makes them a top-five contender in the Big East, and it's a huge reason why they're now the highest-ranked team in the conference.
The first month of the college basketball season is in the books, and a new set of rankings are out. Two human polls - the AP Poll and Coaches Poll - are the most popular, but there are a number of others that have been released.
There was a lot of parity this week, and even the top-ranked teams dropped games. But that's what makes this season exciting.
So, which team should make a push up the rankings? Let's take a look at some of the best candidates.
One team that deserves to move up is Texas, which had a stellar week. They were able to win by double digits against Iowa State, North Carolina and Gonzaga.
That's an impressive performance, and it'll put them in the top 25 this week. They've also got a solid tournament resume, and that's what matters most.
Another one that could move up a few spots is Alabama, which knocked off top-ranked Houston and now looks to have a legitimate shot at the SEC title. This team is a lot better than their ranking suggests, and they've got a great young nucleus led by Noah Clowney.
The #19 Miami Hurricanes are coming off a big ACC win at Clemson and they face another key conference opponent when they travel to Duke on Saturday night. They have a chance to extend their winning streak to three games when they take on the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Miami has won eight games this season, and they have a chance to get a big win on Monday night against a Duke team that has been playing well. After a three-game losing streak, the Blue Devils picked up a victory against North Carolina and will be eager to get back to winning ways.
This team is a solid defensive team, but they need to play better offensively. Their first-half performance against Georgia Tech was a bit sloppy, and they need to utilize sturdy perimeter defense against a Miami team that shoots well from deep.
The Hurricanes have a balanced attack, with four players averaging double figures. They have struggled to shoot the three ball, though, and if they want to make a run at the ACC title this year, they will need to improve on their shooting percentage.
A key player on this offense is Isaiah Wong, who leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points per game and has 3.8 assists. He has also been excellent in the paint, as he averages 10.1 rebounds per game.
Against the Blue Devils, he should be able to get hot and lead his team to a big ACC win in college basketball odds. He is a great facilitator, and his size gives him the opportunity to score on the break when needed.
This team is going to need to get out in front early and hold a lead. They have won their last five ACC games by at least 10 points, and they should be able to pull out this one.
Duke is a good rebounding team, but they need to be more efficient on the offensive end. They have been getting hot from long range recently, but they will need to find more shots in the mid-range and at the rim.
The Hurricanes have won their last two ACC games, and they have a lot of momentum after a tough loss to Wake Forest. However, if they don’t use their strong defense to take control of the game early, they will have a difficult time stopping the Blue Devils on Saturday.
The #19 Miami Hurricanes are looking to get back on track in their ACC battle against the #1 Duke Blue Devils, and it will be a big test. The two teams have both lost games in the past few weeks, and both are in need of a win to climb in the ACC standings.
The defense in this game should play a major role in the outcome, as both of these teams struggle to score on their opponents. The Blue Devils have been a strong home team this season, and they will need to continue that trend to beat the Hurricanes.
Duke's defense has been a strength this season, as they rank first in the ACC in opponent effective field goal percentage and second in opponent scoring defense. They have also held 20 of 23 teams below their average in points.
This is a defensive-oriented game that could go either way, but I think the Blue Devils will win by a larger margin. Both of these teams have been struggling to shoot the three-point line this season, and I think the Blue Devils will make more of a push down low with their big men.
Freshman center Kyle Filipowski has looked like a blue chip prospect this year, and he's averaging at least 14 points in every game since joining the Blue Devils. He had an impressive performance in their recent win over Clemson, racking up 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Junior guard Jeremy Roach is one of the top point guards in the country, and he's played well over the last few games. He had a big performance in the Blue Devils' win over UNC, logging 16 points and nine assists.
He'll be a key part of the Duke defense, alongside fellow senior Tanner Smith. He's a big threat down low, and his teammates will have to keep him out of foul trouble.
The Duke defense has looked much tougher this season, and they've been getting a lot more involved on the defensive end. Despite their struggles this season, they're still seen as a solid option in the ACC.
Rebounding is one of the most important skills a basketball player can have. It helps a team win games by providing more opportunities for scoring points. Rebounding can occur in a variety of ways, including box outs and chasing down loose balls in the paint. In addition, rebounding drills can be a great way to add more strength and flexibility to your body.
The #19 Miami Hurricanes look to build on their three-game winning streak when they take on the Duke Blue Devils in an ACC matchup at Watsco Center on Monday night. The Hurricanes are coming off a road win against Clemson and are tied with NC State for fourth place in the conference standings, which is important because the top four teams in the league earn byes into next month’s ACC tournament.
On the other side of the floor, the Blue Devils have been struggling to shoot the ball well. They’ve shot just 39.3% from the field, compared to their average of 54%. They also haven’t made as many 3-pointers as they’d like to have.
Their shooting was especially poor against Clemson, as they shot just 4 of 11 from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils will hope to turn it up on the offensive end against a team that allows opponents to shoot just 29.3% from long range, which is ranked 30th nationally.
They will also have to be careful not to let their defensive game fall apart as they’ve been letting teams shoot too much at the rim. This has led to some of their biggest turnovers this year, and they’ll need to make sure they’re playing with a sense of urgency.
Duke’s rushing attack is balanced with four players averaging between 251 and 420 yards per game. Their offensive line has been a major factor in their success on the ground, and they’re averaging 5.48 yards per carry as a result.
Colbie Young has had a breakout last couple of weeks, and this week against a Duke defense that struggles to stop downfield passing offenses, he can continue to build on his strong start. He’s flashing special contested catch ability at 6 feet, 5 inches and 215 pounds and could become Miami’s number one receiver as the second half of the season progresses.
The pace of play in #19 Miami Hurricanes Versus Duke Blue Devils Preview and Prediction will be a key factor in the outcome of Monday's game at Watsco Center. Both teams are in the final rounds of the ACC Conference Tournament and will be looking to punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament.
In the last meeting between these two teams, the Hurricanes won a thrilling 76-74 game in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Kameron McGusty hit a hanging layup with 22.8 seconds remaining and Miami was able to hold off a Blue Devil rally.
While the Hurricanes have been unable to sustain a high level of performance in the last three games, they are still a talented team that has shown it can be a lot more than a one-dimensional offensive machine. The key for the Hurricanes will be to stay in front of a talented and athletic Duke defense.
The Blue Devils are a team that is able to control the pace of play on offense, but they have struggled to do it consistently in their last couple of games. They have averaged 72.5 points per game this season, and they will need to find ways to get that number up against an efficient Miami offense.
Despite this, Miami will likely be a small favorite on the moneyline and spread per FanDuel Sportsbook's odds. The Hurricanes have won six of their last seven games against teams that are favored by less than five points, and they've only lost to one team that is a home favorite this year.
Miami's defense has been one of their best units this year, and it will need to be able to slow down Duke's stable of running backs. The Blue Devils have been able to keep up with their opponents' rushing attacks in most of their games this season, but they have also allowed teams to score over 500 yards of offense three times this season.
The Blue Devils are a top-five offense in the country on the strength of their rushing attack. However, the Blue Devils are not a very good pass defense, and quarterback Riley Leonard will have to do a better job of getting the ball down the field.

However, many fans found her look to be over the top. They criticized her for trying too hard to look young and hot, but others found her appearance to be adorable and wished that she could be like this at her age.
While Denise was not the only woman to show off a bikini look in recent months, she is proving that age is not necessarily an issue when it comes to sexy looks. Other celebrities who have also rocked this look include Donna D’Errico and 52-year-old Jennifer Lopez.
The 51-year-old star has a lot of fans who would love to see her in a bikini again, and she’s clearly showing them that she can do it. She’s been known to post a number of sexy bikini shots over the past few months and it looks as though she may continue to rock this look.

The mother of two has had a rough relationship with her daughter Sami Sheen, who moved in with Charlie Sheen after their divorce in 2006. Although the actress had a difficult time raising Sami, she says her ex-husband was sober when they got married and she remained civil with him.
She recently joined the NSFW platform OnlyFans and posted a series of sultry photos of herself to her social media account, while posing topless. The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star is the latest in a growing list of celebrities and athletes who have created accounts on OnlyFans, including Megan Fox, Kourtney Kardashian, and Ariana Grande.
OnlyFans is a subscription platform that allows people to monetize nude and scantily-clad content, as well as promote their fitness trainers or influencers. The platform has been criticized for its lack of a filter, which makes it easier for under-age users to share explicit images.
In September 2021, Sami shared a TikTok video in which she said she was "trapped in an abusive household," and "hated myself." She went on to claim that she dropped out of high school and moved into her father's home with his family. She later announced that she and her parents were working on getting her GED.
But a year after she and her mom reunited, things were rocky again. In an interview with Page Six, Sheen slammed her decision to join OnlyFans and questioned why she did it. She also claimed she was not "in school" and did not agree with her daughter's decision to start a business on the site.
Despite Sheen's claims, Denise Richards is still supporting her daughter. She recently penned a sweet tribute to her eldest daughter's 18th birthday, which she shared with Sami on her Instagram.

The 51-year-old actress took to Instagram on Tuesday (April 19) to share the first look from her latest sexy photo shoot. She looks a little like she's enjoying the sunshine as she posed for her photo session on the beach in Malibu, Calif. She also shared a romantic beachside selfie with her husband Aaron Phypers, who gave her a thumbs up.
Earlier this week, the actress and her husband were spotted on a sunny Monday in Malibu as they headed out for a day at the beach. She posted a loved-up selfie on Instagram, with the couple sharing a kiss and smiling big at the camera.
But they weren't alone in their beachside escapade, as her adorable daughter Eloise joined her for the shot. The star's third child, who she adopted in 2011 when she was a single mom, wore flared pants with a faded blue and brown paisley design and added color to the ensemble with a pink tee, green zip-up hoodie, and gray flip-flops.
While the incident was a scary one, it's good to know that neither Denise nor Aaron were injured during the road-rage incident. TMZ reports that the couple was on their way to Popsicle Studio LA when the driver behind them got upset and began yelling at them. The man allegedly fired shots at the back of their truck, and it's unclear whether he hit anyone in the car.
The couple was reportedly shaken up but appeared to be in good spirits after the incident. The TMZ report said that Richards "got so emotional and upset about the situation" that she called a production crew member to help her. The crew then called 911, and a bullet hole was spotted in the driver's side of their truck.

She looked stunning with a tweed mini skirt, shrunken blazer, and full-volume hair, showcasing her curves and showing off her gorgeous figure in the snaps she shared on her Instagram account.
She was also seen wearing a white bikini with a floral print on the beach and splashing around in the water with her sister Sami Sheen, who was born to the actress and her ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
Despite their split, the pair have continued to raise Lola and Sami together. In fact, Denise and Sheen are the only two parents who appear in all three seasons of RHOBH.
But the pair have a difficult relationship, and a source tells HELLO! that a rough time came to a head this year when Richards kicked Sami out of her home. Sheen then moved in with his daughters and he’s been helping them get back on their feet since.
According to the source, he’s always tried to take his time and bond with his daughters. He has been a hands-on dad and has done his best to be there for them during their most important milestones.
This year, he even made it clear that he wants to continue coparenting his girls. He took the time to get to know them and spend quality time with them, so he could better understand their unique personalities.
He also made it a point to make sure they stayed connected to each other when he was away from them, whether that was by visiting their school or spending time with their friends and family.
Although they still have a rocky relationship, it seems as though things are looking up for the Richards-Sheen family. Their youngest daughter Lola recently graduated from middle school, and Denise is congratulating her on her accomplishment with a sweet post on Instagram.
