Each season, Discovery’s reality series follows several dredges as they dig for gold on the ocean floor around Nome, Alaska. They’re armed with a bucket or hose to suck up gold from the bottom of the icy sea, and they pilot their rigs with pride.

The dredges include Christine Rose (co-owned by Steve and Shawn Pomrenke), Reaper Nation (owned by Brad Kelly and captained by son Kris Kelly), Myrtle Irene (owned by Ken Kerr Dave Young), Gold Ship Wild Ranger and The Eroica (owned by Emily Riedel). All these boats have their own unique stories, but what brings them together is their passion for mining.

This season, we’ll see some familiar faces return as well as some new blood. We’ll also see an old friend arrive in Nome, bringing her Alaskan commercial fishing and homesteading expertise to the show: Jane Kilcher.

Fans of the show can expect plenty of drama as rivals Shawn Pomrenke and Reaper Nation captain Kris Kelly are locked in a battle to be Nome’s “Mr. Gold.” We’ll also watch as dredge captains Emily Riedel and Vernon Adkison try to navigate their custom-built dredges in the roughest conditions possible.

Meanwhile, the Pomrenkes are still struggling with a faulty motor and Hank Schimschat is working to get his megadredge ready for gold, even though he’s only got two deckhands on board. Then there’s the Minnow’s mutiny, and Vernon’s lack of deckhands or divers means his gold yield isn’t what he expected.

In the season finale, a storm slashes across the ice. Then the dredges face an unexpected visit from the Coast Guard, and it’s up to Mr. Gold to prove his worth and earn 3000 ounces.

And when the ice melts and the summer dredging season begins, tensions are high among the crew. Glen, Brad and Vernon find success on their dredges, but Emily continues to struggle.

Meanwhile, rogue mastermind Zeke Tenhoff returns to the Bering Sea with a new dredge that is designed to take advantage of the sea’s unpredictable weather. This new dredge will allow him to access deeper claims and stay overnight, which he hopes will set him apart from other competitors.

At the same time, a rocky relationship between Shawn Pomrenke and his father Steve turns explosive. The father-son team disagrees on the best route to take to get their hands on gold. And in the end, a major mishap with the dredge crews puts everyone’s lives in jeopardy.

In the end, one of the dredges falls into a honey hole and the other is forced to rethink its plan. This causes a big clash between the rivals.

It’s also the start of another big battle between dredgers Kris Kelly and Shawn Pomrenke, who are locked in a turf war. In addition, Reaper Nation captain Jane Kilcher from “Alaska: The Last Frontier” joins the crew on the Eroica dredge to help out in Nome.

The tension escalates to the point where a group of dredgers start to lose control at Nome Harbor, leading to punches and blood.
