The All-Star Futures Game is an annual baseball exhibition game hosted by Major League Baseball (MLB) as part of its midsummer All-Star Game festivities. From 1999 to 2018, a team of prospects from the United States (excluding Puerto Rico) competed against a team of prospects from other countries around the world and Puerto Rico. In 2019, the format shifted to a team of players from American League organizations against players from National League organizations. Over 800 players have been selected to participate in the All-Star Futures game since its first installment in 1999.

The 91st Midsummer Classic is fast approaching, and as voting continues for the All-Star Game starters, Major League Baseball has announced the rosters for All-Star Sunday’s main event: the All-Star Futures Game. Divided into American League and National League teams for the second year, three top prospects in the Colorado Rockies organization have been named to the National League team. They join other Rockies Futures Game alumni like Nolan Arenado, Troy Tulowitzki, Raimel Tapia, Ben Petrick, Ryan McMahon and Dexter Fowler as players in the prospect showcase. But that's not the purpose of the Futures Game. The July 11 game is about highlighting the stars of tomorrow and giving fans a chance to see them play. Prospects shouldn’t earn their spots by grinding their way through the minors, they should be selected for the game with the motivation of producing the best, most interesting mix of future MLB stars that can be put on the field.

The All-Star Futures Game will be played during All-Star weekend on Sunday, June 11th. The National League team will be managed by former Rockies third baseman Vinny Castilla, while the American League team will be managed by former Rockies reliever LaTroy Hawkins. Other Rockies alumni such as Jamey Carroll and Marvin Freeman will be coaching in come capacity, along with Hartford Yard Goats pitching coach Frank Gonzales. (Source: www.purplerow.com)
