Atlanta, for the second straight year, went up 3-1 over the heavily favored Dodgers and then lost Game 5, but it shut down the Los Angeles bats in Game 6 to advance to its first World Series since 1999. Now, the franchise will pursue its first world title since 1995. (Source: www.sportingnews.com)These two teams have never met in the World Series before, but that doesn't mean there isn't postseason history between them. They most recently clashed in the 2005 NLDS, when the Astros still called the National League Central home. Houston came out on top en route to the franchise's first World Series appearance. The former NL West squads also met in the 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2004 playoffs. (Source: www.sportingnews.com)

All World Series games will be carried by Fox. Because the Astros (95-67) finished with a better record than the Braves (88-73), Houston is considered the top seed. That means the first two games and the last two games (if necessary) of the best-of-seven series will be at Minute Maid Park in Houston, while the middle three games (Game 5 only if necessary) will be at Truist Park in Atlanta. MLB World Series betting guide: Braves and Astros square off (Source: www.espn.com)

It has been a long, strange trip for the Houston Astros in the American League. Coming off their sign-stealing scandal and a sub-.500 performance in the abbreviated 2020 season, it was worth asking whether Houston was truly as elite as their reputation. That answer turned out to be a resounding yes. First, the team took care of the Chicago White Sox in convincing fashion. Then they faced the suddenly surging Red Sox, who seemed to have them on the ropes after a barrage of home runs led Boston to take a 2-1 series lead. The Astros didn't panic, however, and shut down the Red Sox's bats with ease in the next three games. (Source: www.espn.com)

In the National League, the Atlanta Braves won three straight in the NLDS after going down in the first game to the Milwaukee Brewers. That only set them up to take on the winner of the San Francisco Giants-Los Angeles Dodgers series, a matchup that would determine which team with a historically successful regular season the Braves would have to overcome. They proved more-than-adequate to the challenge, starting off the series with a pair of walk-off wins in Atlanta and staving off a comeback attempt by the star-studded Dodgers. Still, that wasn't enough to beat the Atlanta Braves in the Division Series. (Source: bleacherreport.com The Braves have been a model of resiliency, overcoming a season-ending injury to superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. and a number of other injuries to win their fourth straight NL East title. Not bad for a team that wasn't even above .500 until Aug. 6 and is now the World Series champions after eliminating Milwaukee, Los Angeles and Houston. (Source:bleacherreport.com))

The favorites, however, figured to be the Tampa Bay Rays, who were looking to return to the World Series after coming up short against the Dodgers last season. Not bad for a team with the fifth-lowest payroll in baseball. Career years from Brandon Lowe, Randy Arozarena and Mike Zunino helped. But the Rays have become one of the best-run franchises in baseball, if not all of professional sports. (Source: bleacherreport.com)
