Nottingham trawled the nearby area for a cafe to shelter from a passing shower. He eventually stumbled on a local restaurant which was open. He tucks in to his soup and toast but notices a woman outside, who is staring at him. He pauses for a moment, then continues eating. He's nearly finished when he sees the woman walking towards him. She asks for a light for her cigarette, and Nottingham obliges.

Today, Juliette is a vibrant community where guests can step onto the movie set and have a plate of fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café right where Idgie sat in the movie. After enjoying a delicious meal, guests can stroll through the scenic community and browse for unique gifts or collectibles in the shops along McCracken Street, visit Buddy's arm, Ruth and Idgie's graves, or the old Juliette Grist Mill built in 1927, one the world's largest water-powered grist mills. CAFE

Of course we ordered fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café. You pretty much have to, but even if you didn’t, you’d want to, they are truly that good. The restaurant, which is only open for lunch from 11 – 4 pm, goes through more than 400 green tomatoes in a week. During the Fried Green Tomatoes festival, which is the last weekend in October, that number jumps to about 650! That is pretty incredible considering the Whistle Stop restaurant is 10 miles from the highway, and the only way to find it is to be looking. But the legend, and the movie still bring tourists to town. By the time we finished lunch the Cafe was hopping.

Fried Green Tomatoes is a beloved southern film from 1991 inspired by the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. The film stars Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson (Idgie Threadgoode), Chris O'Donnell, and Mary-Louise Parker (Ruth Jamison) and follows two sets of female friendships and the hardships they endure together. Tandy landed an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress and the script was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. It's a classic film everyone should watch.
