Two Urban Lick

“An impressive painting, The Courage of Margaret Mead portrays a young lady in a white evening dress in the midst of a large silent room. Her back to us, she is looking at a large window display of various bird species. They all seem dead. Tigers and other wild cats surround her. Are they stuffed or alive? They all seem suspended in time, about to emerge from their frozen state. Murphy’s painting depicts a poetic scene, full of questioning. What is Margaret doing in this strange place in the middle of the night? Is this a dream or a piece of our history? A changing nocturnal light adds to the mystery of the space: green near the birds, golden over the cats, lunar on the dress. The composition is geometric, the characters naturalistic, the work glowing.” —Luxe Magazine (Source:

On the Grid : Two Urban Licks

Affectionately abbreviated as O4W, the neighborhood is steeped in Atlanta's history, most notably because it marks both the birthplace and final resting place of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Today, it is highlighted by some of the most interesting new developments in the city. The neighborhood is a proverbial melting pot of Atlantans with a number of unique offerings designed to suit any lifestyle. O4W helps stitch together the other neighborhoods around it and contains an eclectic mix of both old and new restaurants, shops, and parks. Two Urban Licks Atlanta, Ga 3030

Two Urban Licks Restaurant Atlanta Ga Reviews

: The large roll-up industrial windows of this renovated urban warehouse-turned-restaurant are aimed squarely at the city's skyline. A live-fire rotisserie is the focal point of the open kitchen. To control the sound factor, seating is best al fresco in good weather. Wine is served from a system of stainless steel barrels from which it is dispensed into decanters of sundry sizes, depending on the patron's order. Clever though it may be, the system has perils for the wine savvy, who may find the whole business contrived and the flavors affected. Meanwhile, executive chef Todd Stein's appetizers let guests enjoy the tapas way to dine. Especially good are the salmon chips, a signature item, or the Thai tuna tartare, made just hot enough with some Serrano chili. For mains, try the lightly grilled, huge sea scallops on Gouda grits with smoked tomato broth. Desserts run from chocolate cake to bread pudding and every classic American sweet meal-ender in between. The extensive brunch menu makes repeat visits totally appropriate. The poached egg on corn-chorizo hash with a red wine jus is just close enough to oeufs meurette to call it a cousin. Few spots are as convivial on a Saturday evening as the patio. Lick It up at Two Urban Licks in Atlanta!

So, as you could well imagine, I get told about great places to eat all the time. Well, I am told about places to eat all the time, not all of them are great. Friends suggest places to me that they think I would like, and sometimes strangers are offended that I liked something. It happens. Comes with the territory. That said, a recommendation came along a while back that I thought, “Well, sounds interesting. Maybe we’ll try it”.
