Sir w arthur lewis, a British Nobel prize-winning author, historian, scholar, and philosopher. Was born Lucia Elizabeth Mary Lewis on March 31, 1929 in Northern Ireland. He is best known for his World War II memoir, the trilogy A History of the World in 100 Objects. And his non-fiction works The Children of Lewis Street, The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Last Battle.
Lewis attended the London School of Economics after winning a government scholarship. He graduated in 1937 and received a Ph.D. in economics there in 1940. He was a lecturer at the school from 1938 to 1947, professor of economics at the University of Manchester from 1947 to 1958. Principal of University College of the West Indies in 1959–62, and professor at Princeton University from 1963 to 1983. He served as adviser on economic development to many international commissions and to several African, Asian, and Caribbean governments. He helped establish, and in 1970–73 headed, the Caribbean Development Bank. Lewis was knighted in 1963. (Source:www.britannica.com)
Sir w arthur lewis is the author, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1963. Born in Wales, he was the first and only Welsh to win the literature prize, and the youngest person ever to do so. He is the author of fifty-four children’s books. His most famous works include The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Chronicles of Narnia. And The Space Trilogy, for which he was knighted by the Prince of Wales.
