There’s been much written about the Broncos’ decision to draft Patrick Surtain II instead of a quarterback. However, there’s been too little written about Patrick Surtain II (affectionately dubbed PS2)’s high level of play this season. Impact Surtain is dealing with a lower leg issue described as soreness. The Broncos are taking a cautious approach and rested the rookie during Wednesday's practice. Surtain has had himself a great training camp, and he met high expectations during the Broncos' preseason opener with a pick-six in his first NFL action. Assuming Denver's first-round selection has no setbacks, the cornerback may be available for the team's next preseason contest against Seattle on Aug. 21. (Source: www.foxsports.com)

Impact According to Coach Vic Fangio, Surtain could have continued practicing, but he was kept out as a precaution. The injury does not appear to be serious, so Surtain's availability for Denver's next preseason game against Seattle is likely not in question. The rookie cornerback is coming off an impressive debut in his first game action in which he scored a touchdown on a 30-yard interception return. Surtain also registered a pass breakup in the contest. The University of Alabama product will look to live up to the high expectations of being a ninth overall draft selection as a member of a defensive backfield with proven veterans Kyle Fuller and Ronald Darby. Surtain's strong technique should help him to make an impact immediately, especially since he may be playing in slot coverage often this season. (Source: www.foxsports.com)

Surtain is the latest high-profile cornerback who will keep Alabama's defense among the nation's best. It won't be hard for him to find success given his size at 6'2" and natural athleticism. He's able to cover a lot of ground thanks to his length and can match receivers stride for stride.
