Founded in 1881, the Georgia Zoo is the largest privately funded zoo in the country. It is home to more than 1800 animals of 400 different species.Chestatee Wildlife Preserve is located on 30 acres of gently rolling farmland, and is home to over 100 exotic and native animals. The preserve is an educational and non-profit organization licensed to exhibit exotic as well as domestic wildlife. A volunteer staff works with the animals, and visitors have the opportunity to observe and interact. More than 125 animals are showcased at the facility, including a number of rare and endangered international wildlife species. The preserve is home to rare white Siberian tigers, chimpanzees, African lions, servals, leopards, zebras, macaws, emus and more.
