Finally the end of summer is here. LA weather is typically warm, so we’ve been saying goodbye to the sunny days with a bang. Our rain, in both frequency and density, has been unrelenting. This is our first real experience of the fall, which means we’ll soon be turning our focus to winter preparation! Our “Weekend Weather Update” is another installment of our new podcast Central Park Drinks. It’s really fun to sit with.

DAY

In May, each day sees on average 13 hours of sunshine, plenty of time to enjoy all of the outdoor activities Los Angeles has to offer. Your chance of having a sunny day on any given day in May is 46 percent. The plentiful sunshine means you'll want to pack plenty of sunscreen to protect yourself. Florida still holds the title for the sunniest state, so if it's sun you're seeking out, a trip there might be pertinent!

We base the humidity comfort level on the dew point, as it determines whether perspiration will evaporate from the skin, thereby cooling the body. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid. Unlike temperature, which typically varies significantly between night and day, dew point tends to change more slowly, so while the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night. CITY

Created by famed Los Angeles chef, Sang Yoon, Lukshon gives customers a taste of authentic Southeast Asian dishes. It also offers an extensive wine, beer and cocktail menu with drinks that complement and enhance the main dishes. Open for lunch Tuesday through Friday and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, Lukshon is located in Culver City.

For a taste of flamboyant Mexican culture, the Cinco De Mayo celebration is usually the first weekend in May, and in the United States is a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Huge events happen all over the city, like Cinco de Mayo at Olvera Street. This event includes a traditional Cinco de Mayo celebration with mariachis, folklorico dancers, piñatas and lots of kids' activities. (Source: www.holiday-weather.com)

The temperature reaches around 23℃ during the daytime in May, falling away to 14℃ at night. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you're going to be outside for long periods it's worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure. (Source: travelscoop.co.uk)
