Lori Singer is the Founder and CEO of Art CoLabs, a collaborative, open community that trades ideas and projects, and helps artists get their work out into the world. Before that, she was the Founder and CEO of Place-Shifter, a real estate company, and Sprouts, a dining company, which went on to become two of the fastest growing businesses in Austin, TX.

She was cast as Julie Miller, a teenage dancer and cellist, in the television series Fame, in which she appeared between 1982 and 1983. Singer gained notice for her lead role as Ariel Moore in the musical drama film Footloose (1984). She was later cast in supporting roles in John Schlesinger's drama The Falcon and the Snowman (1985), the comedy The Man with One Red Shoe (1985), the horror film Warlock (1989), and Robert Altman's ensemble drama Short Cuts (1993). She was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in Trouble in Mind (1985).

The film was short-listed for the Academy Awards in 2013 and was nominated for a Writers Guild Award. In 2014 the documentary was awarded a Peabody Award. In 2017 she narrated the documentary “God Knows Where I Am” which won 17 film festivals, an Emmy and was on Netflix in 2019. She also performed “Linda's Song” with Paul Cantelone for the soundtrack of the film.

She was a natural to play the tall, beautiful cellist Julie Miller, displaying her dancing and singing skills. In 1993, Lori won a Golden Globe Award for her outstanding performance in Short Cuts (1993). In 1995, Lori starred in VR.5 (1995) the short-lived sci-fi series. That same year, she was also listed in People magazine as one of the "Most Beautiful People".
