Cynthia Lauren Tewes (/ˈtwiːz/; born October 26, 1953) is an American actress. She played Julie McCoy on the television comedy anthology series The Love Boat, which originally aired on ABC from 1977 to 1986.

Lauren Tewes was born on October 26, 1953 in Braddock, Pennsylvania, USA as Cynthia Lauren Tewes. She is an actress, known for The Love Boat (1977), The X-Files Game (1998) and The Doom Generation (1995).

Lauren Tewes is an American actor who is best known to her audiences as ‘Julie McCoy’ from the ‘ABC’ drama series ‘The Love Boat.’ Born into a lower-middle-class family, Tewes had to prove her tenacity for several years before she could taste success. However, her career came to an abrupt halt as soon as she started reaping the fruits of her labor. The popular Hollywood culture of drugs caught up with Tewes early in her career. By the time she sought help from a counselor to start her withdrawal process, it was too late. She lost her house, her husband, and her job to her cocaine addiction. She also lost her new-born baby a few years later. After a slew of unfortunate events, Tewes rediscovered herself as an actor and director in regional theater. She continues to perform in Seattle. Veteran television actress Lauren Tewes is best known for her role on the sitcom "The Love Boat." She attended Rio Hondo College and studied at the University of California at Riverside, where she won the 1st Annual Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Theater. She began her career in television and after appearances on "Starsky and Hutch," "Charlie's Angels," "T.J. Hooker" and "Fantasy Island," she received the most notable role of her career on the series "The Love Boat." Tewes played Cruise Director Julie McCoy for 199 episodes, beating out over 100 other actresses for the role. Tewes was replaced on the series in 1984 after a highly public battle with cocaine abuse, although she did reprise her role as a guest in later episodes. She had a recurring role on the TV series "The Fugitive" in 2000 as a police detective and has appeared on the series "Who's the Boss," "Dark Justice" and "Martin."
