With the government encouraging everyone to take social distancing measures in a bid to stem the spread of the virus, the unprecedented measures have reminded some of a similar situation - in the form of Disney’s Tangled.
“So the movie from Disney Tangled the girl is not allowed out of the castle. The kingdom is called Corona. Coincidence!! I don’t think so. I’m shook.”
“I saw an IG story that said Rapnunzel was “quarantined” for 18 years by Mother Ethel and he said Google the name of the Kingdom in Tangled. I was shook. Disney is the villain! #corona.” (Source: www.thenews.com.pk “Corona is an island kingdom and the birthplace of Rapunzel in Disney’s 2010 animated feature film, Tangled. After a significant period of isolation it is also where Rapunzal met her future husband/prince. Just saying.” (Source:www.thenews.com.pk w“The movie Tangled which featured Rapunzel (AKA The Queen of Quarantine) was a girl who was locked up by her over protective mother, in a secluded tower on an island. Brace yourself… That island was called “Corona”.” (Source:ww.thenews.com.pk)))
Tangled came out over a decade ago, so only card-carrying members of the tinfoil hat brigade would see a real connection between the name of the kingdom in Tangled and the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic. But instead of reminding people of the popular Mexican lager, the name of Rapunzel’s kingdom in Tangled now reminds them of the novel coronavirus despite the fact that the kingdom in Tangled predates SARS-CoV-2 by several years. “What was the name of the kingdom in Tangled?” was the most Googled question during a weekend in late March of last year. The first round of stay-at-home orders in the U.S. was less than a month old at this time, and it was only natural to wonder if Disney would change the Tangled town name in a sequel to Tangled because lots of people weren’t yet worried about keeping their jobs or paying rent or all of the other headache and heartache the pandemic would bring over the course of the next year. (Source: www.fatherly.com That the kingdom in Tangled is named Corona is an unfortunate coincidence and, strangely, it’s not the only one as many Twitter users have pointed out. Consider that Rapunzel’s lifestyle (solitary, in a tower without any way to access the outside world or breathe in its germs) is an ideal situation for someone trying to avoid contracting COVID-19. It’s social distancing of the height of a tower, which is much greater than the CDC-recommended six feet. (Source:www.fatherly.com))
