Justin Thomas

When you think of golf the first thing that comes to mind? For me, it's Justin Thomas. But, who surpasses anyone else in recent history? Who makes the sport seem like so much more than just a game? Who are their contemporaries and predecessors? These questions are for another time. What we're going to focus right now is on one player.

Justin Louis Thomas (born April 29, 1993) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and is former World Number One. In 2017, Thomas experienced a breakout year, winning five PGA Tour events, including the PGA Championship, his maiden major championship, and also winning the FedEx Cup championship. In May 2018, Thomas became the 21st player to top the Official World Golf Ranking.

In February 2018, Thomas won for the eighth time on tour, claiming victory at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He birdied the final hole of regulation play to make a playoff with Luke List. Then on the first extra hole, Thomas made birdie again on the same hole, after a 5-wood from the fairway. List could not hole his birdie putt, after the missing the green to the right, resulting in Thomas winning the tournament. The win lifted Thomas to the top of the FedEx Cup standings and number three in world rankings. (Source: en.wikipedia.org)

Justin Thomas currently has the most wins of any player on TOUR currently under 30 years old with 14. In 2018, Justin was just the 21st player to ever reach #1 in the Official World Golf Rankings following his WGC win in Memphis. Thomas’ breakout season came in 2016-17 with five of his PGA TOUR wins, including the PGA Championship, 12 top 10 finishes and, ultimately, the FedEx Championship. His other victories came at the CIMB Classic, Sentry Tournament of Champions, Sony Open in Hawaii and Dell Technologies Championship. At the Sony Open, Thomas became the youngest player to shoot 59 on the PGA TOUR and also broke the TOUR’s 72-hole scoring record by a stroke. (Source: justinthomasgolf.com)

Tiger

"It shows how Tiger's changed," said Padraig Harrington, the European Ryder Cup captain, who is playing with his son Paddy. "Let's face it. Tiger was always great to play against at his peak. But he was a hired professional. He let nobody in. Nobody knew who Tiger was. "But now as a parent, he's a completely different person. He's changed. There's no way he would be playing any golf at this stage right now only for he wants to have that experience with his son. As you grow older, you realize there's more to life. Your family becomes the center of your life. And it's clear with Tiger that's the case.
