Gregory Polanco has been the embodiment of Florida success the last two seasons. From Double-A to The Show, the Pittsburgh Pirates Rule-5 draft selection has been the story of the year for the 26-year-old outfielder, for the Pirates franchise and for this Sunshine State.

Career

Began season on the I.L. after testing positive for COVID-19 the week of July 17...Was reinstated on 7/27 and made season debut that night as the DH (0-for-3)...Went hitless in his first nine at-bats before doubling on 7/31 at Chicago (NL)...Connected off Minnesota’s Kenta Maeda for a three-run homer on 8/6...Went 3-for-43 (.070) in his first 14 games thru 8/19...Went 5-for-10 with two homers and five RBI in three-game series vs. Milwaukee from 8/21-23...Swiped two bases on 8/23 vs. Milwaukee (fourth career game with two SB)...Homered in back-to-back games on 8/22-23...Hit a game-winning home run in the eighth inning on 8/23; went hitless in his next 18 at-bats before homering again on 8/30 at Milwaukee...Took lefty Austin Gomber deep on 9/17 - his 16th career home run off a left-handed pitcher and his first since 5/18/19...Went 5-for-70 (.071) in his 22 games played on the road; had three hits in his last 59 road at-bats after homering in Cincinnati on 8/13...Thirteen of his 24 hits were extra-base hits...Made 38 starts in right field and seven as the designated hitter; hit .250 (6-for-24) with two homers and three RBI while serving as the DH...Played with Escogido in the Dominican Winter League and hit .197 (15-for-76) with two home runs and nine RBI in 21 games before suffering a non-displaced fracture of the triquetrum bone on the outside of his right wrist
