David S Pumpkins:

David S Pumpkins:

David Simon Pumpkins is a fictional character played by American actor Tom Hanks. He first appeared in the October 22, 2016 episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL) in a sketch by SNL writers Mikey Day, Bobby Moynihan, and Street er Seidell. Fans responded positively to the character and his catchphrase, "Any questions?" (Source: en.wikipedia.org)

The elevator visits several other floors, at some of which Pumpkins continues to appear, until it stops at the final level. The door opens on just the skeletons, until Pumpkins appears right behind the guests and shout-asks "Any questions?", succeeding in scaring them. After "a sketch gone wrong", Chappelle jokingly says that he thought his failed character "was going to be the next David S. Pumpkins". (Source:en.wikipedia.org))

On September 28, 2017, NBC announced that Pumpkins would star in a 30-minute animated special created by Bento Box Animation. (Source: en.wikipedia.org)

MD: You meet with the host between the first and second half of the table read to tell them about the sketch, especially since there was a musical component to it. I was like, “This could be fun, you know?” Kind of in jest, being like, “Hopefully if this got picked and it went to air, a couple of people might dress up like David Pumpkins for Halloween.” He was like, “Cool!” He thought it was insane. When you say it out loud, it’s insane. “Hey Tom, so you play a guy. His name’s David Pumpkins. He’s in a haunted elevator. No one knows who he is and you’re just super confident and cool.” (Source: www.vulture.com)

MD: We added Kyle [Mooney] and Melissa [Villaseñor] at the rewrite. In the original version, the doors opened and Leslie [Jones] was a fright and she went, “Ooh, I know that look. You’ve seen David Pumpkins, haven’t you?” Or “You wanna find out more about him and get to the bottom of it?” (Source: www.vulture.com)

While it may be hard for the average person to pin their finger on why the sketch has become so beloved, Seidell and Moynihan both pointed to Hanks as probably the biggest reason that Pumpkins found his way into people's hearts. "Tom Hanks is obviously the biggest reason it resonated. His performance, which he didn't really unlock until air, was perfect," Seidell wrote. (Source: www.newsweek.com)
