Courteney Cox Says 'Scream 6? Was the First Time She Fought Ghostface'
Courteney Cox has been starring in the Scream franchise for three decades, but she's now taking on Ghostface head-on. Scream 6 will hit cinemas on March 10, 2023.
Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) returns in Scream 6 as a journalist and writer who joins forces with Sidney Prescott to investigate the series of murders committed by Ghostface. She also becomes romantically involved with Dewey Riley (played by David Arquette)).
Courteney Cox, who played Gale Weathers in all the Scream films except for Scream 3, recently discussed her involvement in 'Scream 6? and revealed it was the first time she faced off against Ghostface.
The former Friends star has been an avid fan of the Scream series since she was a young girl, growing up with her mom and dad watching it together. Thus, playing Gale Weathers has always held great appeal to her - something which will always remain a dream come true.
She is an accomplished talk show host with over three decades in the business, making her an ideal choice to portray Gale Weathers. Though she often adds her own unique touch to the character, she always stays true to the spirit of the series.
Gale Weathers is a reporter and author who covers the Woodsboro Murders, which inspired Scream 2. After Sidney Prescott, her best friend, passes away in the first film, she writes a book about the killings which Dewey Riley reads aloud from it.
After the 2011 attacks, Gale and Dewey divorced and relocated to New York where Gale now hosts a morning show. When murders return to Woodsboro, however, Gale returns home to help solve the crimes.
Gale becomes frustrated with Dewey's inaction and attempts to go rogue in order to catch the killer. After having an encounter with Charlie as Ghostface, Gale is stabbed in the shoulder but manages to recover.
Gale has only been stabbed once, but she uses her intellect to identify who the killer is. At the climactic climax of the movie, she saves Sidney by distracting Jill Roberts long enough for Sidney to obtain a defibrillator and kill Ghostface with it.
Despite her initial reservations about facing Ghostface, she was determined to do it. Her character is strong and resilient, and it's her ability to stay positive that has enabled her to prevail even in the face of death.
Courteney Cox recently shared an exciting insight about her upcoming Scream VI movie. In it, the 58-year-old actress will square off against Ghostface for the first time.
On March 31st, 2023, Hayden Panettiere stars as Kirby Reed alongside Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin), Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin) and Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter).
In Scream VI, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind to begin a new chapter in their lives. To do so, they move to New York City - but the city hasn't exactly welcomed them with open arms.
One of the greatest threats to young women's safety in New York City is Ghostface, a masked serial killer known for stalking and killing young women since 1990. Over the course of 21 slasher films, different characters have donned the iconic mask of Ghostface; each storyline featuring an entirely new version of this unsolvable killer.
Ghostface has appeared in multiple Scream movies, but never as its own protagonist until now. That will change with the sixth installment, which brings back familiar faces as well as some brand-new ones.
In addition to returning cast members, Scream 6 features two new actors: Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori. Both actors are well-known for their roles in films like The Valet, Nine Perfect Strangers and Spider-Man: No Way Home; however they will be taking center stage for Scream 6.
Weaving will make her debut appearance in a Scream movie, having previously collaborated with Radio Silence directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on Ready or Not. So keep an eye out for Weaving in the upcoming flick!
Cox revealed that her character Gale Weathers will be "fighting a new kind of Ghostface" in the film, an experience which she will first have to navigate without knowing his identity.
Gale Weathers was the sole returning character from Scream 4, and she returns again for this installment of the franchise. Joined by Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding as they battle Ghostface in New York.
Panettiere returns to the franchise as she brings back her Scream 4 character Kirby Reed. This time around, she is on the offensive as she seeks out who Ghostface is and brings him to justice.
In the Scream 6 trailer, we see former Woodsboro survivors take on a new Ghostface killer who appears to be even more brutal and sadistic than its predecessor. This new Ghostface is terrorizing a bodega and the New York subway system with Panettiere's Kirby at their side.
Cox, who played Gale in Scream 4, is not only fighting for her life in the movie - she's also writing a book about her experiences as an actual survivor from Scream. The upcoming film, due out March 10th, takes this iconic horror series to new heights.
This time around, she must battle not just a new Ghostface but an all-new group of Scream survivors. Along with Cox, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jack Champion and Jasmin Savoy Brown will also be making their comeback appearances.
Scream 6 features an impressive cast of new characters, led by Panettiere. In addition to Panettiere, viewers can also witness Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Liana Liberato in the trailer for Scream 6.
Courteney Cox stars as Gale Weathers, an ambitious journalist working as a morning show host. She finds herself caught up in an intense action sequence featuring glass shattering and bullets flying as she fights against Ghostface's terrifying presence.
Hayden Panettiere will make an unexpected return to the Scream series, bringing her Scream 4 character Kirby Reed with her. She has been a fan of the franchise ever since she first watched Scream 4 back in 2011.
Courteney Cox recently revealed that "Scream 6?" Was the First Time She Fought Ghostface - and she was terrified."
The 58-year-old actress is returning to the Scream franchise for a sixth time, this time playing Gale Weathers alongside Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Hayden Panettiere. Additionally, she will be taking on an all new slasher villain in this one - Ghostface.
Ghostface is a serial killer who wears a mask and has numerous abilities. He can break into people's homes, transform themselves into invisible ghosts with his "Ghostmode" and "Night Shroud," even taking down people with one shot of his gun. Additionally, Ghostface can manipulate people into committing murders, frame people for crimes, and track down individuals.
In Scream VI, Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) depart Woodsboro for New York City only to discover Ghostface hasn't finished with them yet. They must confront a new, more vicious version of the masked killer with access to both a shrine and shotgun.
The Scream 6 trailer depicts an older Ghostface than other versions, making him even scarier for fans of the series. The chases and hunts in Scream VI will take survivors through NYC skyscrapers, old apartment buildings and even a subway train.
It's also encouraging that the movie hasn't forgotten about Hayden Panettiere's Kirby Reed, who made it through five films and is now back for round six!
