It’s easy to see MMA fans were excited to see Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier duke it out in the Octagon. But for their most recent matchup, the only things on the line were their reputations and the fight purse. At UFC 269, however, it’s all about the gold: For crowned UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira (31-8). It will be his first title defense and a chance to prove that he’s got what it takes for a proper title reign. For former interim champ Dustin Poirier (28-6) — the No. 1-ranked fighter on the UFC lightweight roster — it’s his coveted shot at the belt for which many feel he’s been long overdue. UFC Dustin

The age-old battle between The Cruiserweight champion and the International hero was decided. And one of the most riveting fight scenes in MMA history was created. The fight was a war from start to finish, despite both brawlers landing impossible put downs that seemed untouchable. Dustin Oliveira got the knockout win and put his first defeat on the record for “Poirier V Mcgregor”.

“Why can Conor not be reasonable?” Sonnen added. “Why can Conor not say, ‘This is all about Dustin Poirier. F you Dustin Poirier, nothing has been forgotten. He can do the whole Conor schtick and say I need one before you. I’m coming off an injury, I’m gonna get my feet wet over here then I’m gonna see you next.’ Why couldn’t he do that? That would make sense. That would be easy. Now you don’t need a spin job, now you don’t need a sell machine and now we would have something to look forward to.” (Source: mmajunkie.usatoday.com)
