The men’s basketball team earned its third ACC title in four years in 2002 under coach Jamie Dixon and then made their second straight trip to the Final Four that same year. Pitt had a thrilling and thrilling finish to the 2003 season with a road win against North Carolina and then a highlight reel performance in the North Carolina-Pitt game in Chapel Hill where the Panthers rallied back from a 17-point halftime deficit.

As of March 8, 2019, Pitt had the longest history of major college basketball teams with its first game being played on December 26, 1895, at Exposition Hall, on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. Its football team has competed since its first recorded game in 1887, and its football stadium, Highfield Stadium, has been in continuous use in some form since 1909.

The Boston College Eagles (6-6) travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon to play the Pittsburgh Panthers (5-9) at 4pm. This will be BC’s 3rd ACC match-up of the season after beating Notre Dame soundly in early December, but then getting trounced by UNC in their most recent game on January 2nd.
